Chief Minister inspects Majua landslide, Yangang and Melli Bazar
Namchi, June 15(IPR): Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang took a comprehensive tour to assess the damages induced by the torrential rain in Rangang Yangang and Melli Constituency under Namchi District, today.
At the outset, the Chief Minister inspected landslide at Majhua village under Niya-Mangzing GPU which occurred on June 10, and claimed the lives of three people, several houses, and livestock.
After the assessment of the landslide, the CM announced that half-acre of cultivable land would be provided to those families whose houses were completely swept away by the calamity, a house under Sikkim Garib Awass Yojna (SGAY) and 5 Lakhs each to the family of deceased. He also enquired about the rehabilitation of those affected families, wherein he instructed the SDM Yangang to swiftly identify the location for their shifting. Additionally, he directed the officials of the Roads and Bridges Department to restore the road linking to Majhua at the earliest for continuous connectivity and assured that the affected villagers would receive all the help from the State Government to bring normalcy.
Thereafter, the CM paid a visit to the relief camp set up in the Tourism Centre at Yangang Helipad for landslide victims. Wherein, he handed over ex-gratia, SGAY allotment orders, financial grants, and other relief materials to them. A total of 36 families were safely evacuated from the landslide area, with 157 members that are currently staying in the camp.
Later, the Chief Minister travelled towards Melli Bazar to inspect the damages inflicted by the Teesta river. He interacted with concerned officials about the prevailing condition and directed the officials of the Irrigation Department to take all necessary measures and precautions to prevent low-lying areas from flooding. He further instructed to build permanent flood walls after the end of the monsoon.
Moreover, the CM also met with the public of Melli Constituency and patiently listened to the demands and grievances which he assured to look into positively.
Throughout the visit, the Chief Minister was accompanied by the Deputy Speaker cum Area MLA Ms Raj Kumari Thapa, Area MLA Melli Mr NB Pradhan, Cabinet Ministers, Advisors, MP Lok Sabha, Zilla Adhakshya, along with the Secretary L&RDM, SP( Namchi), SDMs, officials of line departments and public.
