Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang graced the Chasok Tongnam celebrations here at Ipecac Garden

Gangtok, Dec 15 (IPR): Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang graced the Chasok Tongnam celebrations here at Ipecac Garden, Saramsa, today.
The festival marks the offering of first harvest to Limbu ancestral goddess ‘Yuma Sammang’, and other deities, thereby praying for the welfare of mankind, prosperity, abundant harvest & happiness. It falls on a full-moon day of the Mangsir month of Nepali Bikram Samvad calendar, which is celebrated throughout the month of Senchengla (Mangsir).
The Chief Minister extended his warm greetings to the Limboo community on the special occasion. He further stated that Sikkim is home to several festivals, each carrying its own significance. He suggested that community festivals should also be celebrated at home so that the coming generation learn about the traditions of the community.
The celebrations also included traditional dances, books and music release, cultural songs and felicitation of noted inviduals. One of the highlights of the event was the numerous stalls depicting the rich culture and symbolism of the Limboo community.
