Chairperson, NACWC Holds Interactive Session with Entrepreneurs in Gangtok
Gangtok, February 12 (IPR): Chairperson, National Authority Chemical Weapons Convention (NACWC), Cabinet Secretariat, Government of India, Ms Roli Singh, today held an interactive session with entrepreneurs of Sikkim, facilitated by the Commerce & Industries Department, Government of Sikkim.
The session was attended by the President, SEED Cell, Dr Raj Lama, along with members of the SEED Cell and local entrepreneurs representing enterprises such as Cozy Apparel, Mevedir (Himalaya Fresh), Agapi, Zhimmey Cloud Kitchen, D Gyals Creation and Our Guest Travels.
Also present during the programme were Secretary, Commerce & Industries Department, Ms Karma D Yutso; Principal Chief Architect-cum-Secretary, Urban Development Department (UDD), Ms Yogeeta Rai; Joint Secretary, UDD, Mr Girdhari L. Meena; and Special Secretary-cum-Director, Commerce & Industries Department, Ms Choden Gyatso.
During the interaction, the participants presented their business models and shared experiences of entrepreneurship in the State. Extensive discussions were held on ease of doing business and the need for creating a supportive and entrepreneur-friendly ecosystem in Sikkim.
The Chairperson sought suggestions from the entrepreneurs and encouraged them to explore emerging opportunities across sectors. Highlighting tourism as a key area of potential growth, she stated that homestays have a multiplier effect and can benefit local communities at multiple levels.
Emphasising sustainable development, she urged stakeholders to work in harmony with nature and noted that sectors such as agriculture and horticulture remain highly beneficial for Sikkim. The Chairperson also encouraged entrepreneurs to leverage available resources and make optimum use of schemes and programmes provided by the Central and State Governments to strengthen their ventures and expand market linkages.
In her concluding remarks, the Chairperson appreciated the initiatives and innovation demonstrated by Sikkim’s entrepreneurial community and assured them that their suggestions and concerns would be taken into consideration. She reiterated the importance of strengthening institutional support, simplifying processes, and promoting sustainable, locally-driven enterprises to accelerate inclusive economic growth in the State.
The session concluded with a shared commitment to fostering a more enabling business environment and enhancing opportunities for youth and aspiring entrepreneurs in Sikkim.
