Central Nodal Officer for Jal Shakti Abhiyan concludes his visit to Soreng District
Soreng, June 26 (IPR):
Central Nodal Officer for Jal Shakti Abhiyan, Mr R Arulanandan, successfully concluded his three-day official visit to Soreng District today with a concluding meeting held at the Forest Guest House in Nayabazar. The meeting served as a platform to review the progress of various water-related initiatives under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan and to offer constructive suggestions for further improvement.
Earlier in the day, Mr Arulanandan visited the Amrit Sarovar site at Zoom and inspected the Water Harvesting Structure developed by the Forest Department in the same area. He appreciated the efforts made in water conservation and praised the state’s overall cleanliness, noting it as a significant factor in promoting sustainable and hygienic living conditions.
During the meeting, the Central Nodal Officer offered several key recommendations to strengthen the Jal Shakti Abhiyan in Soreng District: Promotion of Micro-Irrigation Systems to improve water-use efficiency in agriculture, Establishment of a District Water Testing Laboratory to ensure the quality and safety of drinking water sources, Strengthening of the Jal Shakti Kendra as a central hub for information, awareness, and coordination, Expansion of beneficiary coverage under water-related schemes to include more households and communities, Introduction of fishery activities in Amrit Sarovar to enhance biodiversity and promote livelihood generation, Active involvement of the Forest Department in catchment area protection and ecological restoration projects and Focused outreach to far-flung and remote rural areas to ensure equitable access to water resources and schemes.
Mr Arulanandan commended the District Administration and all line departments, including Rural Development, Water Resources, PHED, Forest, Agriculture, and Horticulture, for their coordinated implementation and field-level performance.
He emphasised the importance of continued inter-departmental cooperation and active community engagement and reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to supporting sustainable water management and development initiatives in the district.
