CM Pays Tribute to Late Mr Nar Bahadur Bhandari on His Birth Anniversary

Gangtok, October 5: Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang paid respectful homage to former Chief Minister Late Mr Nar Bahadur Bhandari at Samman Bhawan this morning, on the occasion of his birth anniversary.
Recognising the monumental contributions of Mr Bhandari the state government had earlier declared October 5th, his birth anniversary as a public holiday. The day is observed annually with deep reverence as a tribute to the architect of modern Sikkim and the driving force behind the Nepali language movement in India.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that Late Mr Bhandari was not only a towering figure in Sikkim’s political history but also a symbol of pride for the entire Indian Nepali-speaking community. “His ideals, determination, and lifelong dedication to public service continue to inspire generations,” he said.
Among his most historic achievements was the successful inclusion of the Nepali language in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, a landmark moment for the community nationwide. A visionary leader, Mr Bhandari devoted his life to the upliftment of farmers, workers, teachers, government employees, and the underprivileged, thereby laying the foundation for justice and equality in society.
Concluding his remarks, the Chief Minister called upon the people of Sikkim to honour Mr Bhandari’s legacy by committing themselves to building a stronger, more prosperous, and progressive Sikkim.
Also present were Cabinet Ministers,MP Lok Sabha, MLAs, Deputy Mayor, Councillors, Advisors, Chairpersons, OSDs, HODs, and senior officials from various state government departments.
