Buddhist Associations join SBDO in prayers for Nepal Flood Victims
Gangtok, September 9 (IPR): The Sikkim Buddhist Duechen Organisation, in collaboration with other local Buddhist associations, organised prayers for the victims of the Nepal Flood, at the Dotaphu Deorali Chorten Monastery, this morning.
Representatives from the SBDO and various other Buddhist organisations joined monks at the Chorten Monastery to participate in the prayers and rituals.
President of the SBDO, Mr Pasong Namgyal, stated that on the advice of HH Lachung Tulku Rinpoche, a ‘Nansit Shiwa Karpo’ or ‘Jinsek’ (fire offering) was performed to avert natural calamities and protect all sentient beings from future disaster. Alongside this, the ‘Zangchoed Monlam’ recitation commenced on ‘Nger Nga,’ the 25th day of the lunar calendar (6 September), with the completion of 5,000 chants concluding today. The prayers seek peace for the victims, the cultivation of good deeds, the purification of negative karma, and ultimate enlightenment for all sentient beings. Additionally, a ‘Tongchey’ featuring the lighting of 1,000 butter lamps was conducted to pray for the liberation of the souls of those lost in the floods.
The prayers brought together representatives of Denjong Tashi Yargay Society (Chandmari), Live to Love (Sikkim Chapter), Machig Rimed Choe Chog, Tamang Buddhist Association, Sherpa Buddhist Association and Gurung Buddhist Association.
