Book “Dalai Lama’s Secret to Happiness” Launched in Gangtok

Gangtok, June 12 (IPR):
A book launch event for Dalai Lama’s Secret to Happiness authored by Dr Dinesh Shahra took place at Nepali Sahitya Parishad Bhawan, Development Area, today.
The event was organised by Dinesh Shahra Foundation with support from Nepali Sahitya Parishad Sikkim.
Padma Shri awardee Mr Sanu Lama attended the event as the Chief Guest, and Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Mr S D Dhakal, was present as the Guest of Honour.
The programme began with a welcome address delivered by Publicity Secretary Nepali Sahitya Parishad Sikkim, Mr Joseph Lepcha.
Chief Guest Mr Sanu Lama spoke about inner peace and issues that affect human life. He urged the audience to follow the teachings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. He thanked Dr Shahra for choosing Sikkim as the venue for the book launch. He added that the book offers useful insights and knowledge.
The book titled Dalai Lama’s Secret to Happiness was formally released in the presence of invited guests and dignitaries.
Author Dr Dinesh Shahra addressed the audience and expressed gratitude to Nepali Sahitya Parishad Sikkim for providing the platform. He said the energy of peace and divinity in Sikkim is significant, and described the people of the state as spiritually gifted.
He spoke about the values of love, compassion, joy, and peace, which are central to the teachings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Dr Dinesh Shahra explained that the book draws from the Dalai Lama’s teachings and personal reflections on happiness. He said that it is based on dialogues, real-life experiences, and spiritual messages shared by His Holiness. The book highlights the role of inner transformation in achieving peace and well-being.
Principal Secretary Mr S D Dhakal addressed the gathering and spoke on the relevance of the Dalai Lama’s message in the present time. He stated that the teachings of His Holiness emphasise compassion, forgiveness, and the practice of non-violence.
He also provided a brief overview of the life journey of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, mentioning his early life in Tibet, his spiritual journey, and his role in promoting global peace.
President International Nepali Sahitya Forum, Mr Rudra Poudyal, delivered the keynote address. He spoke on the roots of Buddhist philosophy and the spiritual history of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. He suggested that individuals should study the Dalai Lama’s teachings to understand how spiritual discipline and self-reflection can lead to clarity and calmness. He emphasised the role of consistent practice in adopting these values in daily life.
President Nepali Sahitya Parishad Sikkim, Mr Hari Dhungel, spoke about the importance of reflecting on the true nature of happiness as guided by the teachings of His Holiness. He said that today’s generation is facing stress and anxiety, which overshadows genuine happiness. He stated that happiness arises from within and cannot be obtained through external means.
Mr Hari Dhungel said the gathering itself showed the influence of the Dalai Lama’s presence and message. He encouraged all to seek truth and inner light to overcome internal struggles.
He also spoke on the teachings of Lord Buddha, stating that the path of mindfulness, right conduct, and compassion as taught in Buddhism remains relevant. He said that these teachings serve as a guide to understanding life and attaining peace.
Earlier, the programme featured cultural performances as part of the event.
The event was attended by representatives from Nepali Sahitya Parishad Sikkim, colleges, Khangchendzonga State University, Tibetan community, literary groups, and linguistic and cultural organisations.
The programme concluded with the word of thanks delivered by Treasurer and Programme Coordinator, Nepali Sahitya Parishad Sikkim, Mr G S Subba.
