Bhutan Women’s Archery Team claims victory at 23rd CM Compound Archery Gold Cup
Pakyong, April 22 (IPR):
In celebration of emerging talent in archery, an exhibition match was held today between the Bhutan Women’s Archery Team and the Pakyong District Archery Association at the Karthok Archery Field in Pakyong.
The 23rd Chief Minister’s Compound Archery Gold Cup is being conducted by the Pakyong District Archery Association in collaboration with the District Administration Centre (DAC), Pakyong.
The event was graced by Deputy Speaker, Ms Raj Kumari Thapa as the Chief Guest alongside MLA cum Advisor Rural Development Department, Ms Kala Rai and Deputy Mayor of Gangtok Municipal Corporation, Ms Tshering Palden Bhutia, as the Guest of Honour and Special Guest, respectively.
Accompanying them were MLA cum Advisor and the President of the Organising Committee, Mrs Pamin Lepcha; Zilla Adhakshya, Mrs Laden Lhamu Bhutia and Zilla Upadhakshya, Mrs Prabha Pradhan.
The Bhutan Women’s Archery Team displayed their remarkable skill and potential and secured victory in the exhibition match.
Showcasing skill and teamwork, the Bhutan Women’s Archery Team clinched victory in the exhibition match. Their participation highlighted a progressive shift in women’s involvement in archery, promoting empowerment, breaking traditional norms, and symbolising strength and determination in sports.
To uphold the spirit of the team, the winning team was also rewarded with a cash prize of ₹50,000 and ₹30,000 for the runners-up team.
The dignitaries participated in the art of kite flying, releasing creatively designed kites, reviving the old traditions. Guests also visited a traditional archery stall, where they engaged with antique bows and arrows, experiencing the heritage of the sport firsthand.
Following the ongoing darts competition, locally known as the Hatey Kar competition, it advanced to the quarterfinal stage today. Gonam Pheba defeated Denzong Boys 60-40, Yawa Boys won against Renzongmoo with a score of 60-20, and Kabuthang United edged out Aku Phing Phing 32-28.
Offering a glimpse of traditions, various cultural performances which included Bhutia, Lepcha, Rai and Sangani dances were displayed by Barapathing GPU, Samsing GPU, Parakha GPU and Rolep GPU.
It is to be mentioned that the tournament has successfully reached the semi-finals, with the first semi-final scheduled for tomorrow, April 23rd.
Also present were heads of offices, along with officials from various line departments and representatives from the sports department.
