Mangan, October 29 (IPR): A meeting was held in the chamber of District Collector, Mangan, Mr Anant Jain, with officials from the Women and Child Development Department, Health Department and Skill Development Department to discuss the proposed Community Mental Health Programme by Basic Needs India (BNI) in Sikkim.
During the meeting, representatives of Basic Needs India presented the organisation’s work in community-based mental health, highlighting its 25 years of experience in supporting persons affected by mental health issues, promoting their rights and dignity, and strengthening community support systems.
The proposed initiative aims to establish a community mental health project in Dzongu and Chungthang, focusing on the reintegration of persons affected by mental health issues and building resilience among children. The programme seeks to raise awareness and encourage help-seeking behaviour, strengthen community and government support systems, and promote mental health awareness and resilience among schoolchildren from Classes VI to X.
The initiative also emphasises collaboration with government departments and local communities to improve access to mental health services and ensure sustained support for affected individuals and their families.
