Awareness programme on State and Central Government schemes for MSME organised at BAC Sumbuk

Namchi, March 19 (IPR): An awareness programme on the State and Central Government schemes for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) under the Raising and Acceleration of MSMEs Performance (RAMP) initiative for Melli Constituency was organised at BAC Sumbuk today.
The programme was organised by the District Industries Centre (DIC), Namchi, under the Commerce & Industries Department, Government of Sikkim.
The programme was aimed at disseminating information on various schemes and opportunities available for MSMEs, while also encouraging entrepreneurship among unemployed youth and facilitating access to government subsidy, platforms and guidance to the existing business owners.
MLA Melli/Advisor AH&VS, Mr NB Pradhan, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Present amongst others were Chairperson Sikkim Poultry Development Corporation (SPDC) Ms Dil Kumari Chettri, Chairman Science and Technology Mr Tilak Basnett, BDO Sumbuk Mr LB Pradhan, GM DIC Namchi Mr Dinesh Pradhan, OSD to MLA Mr Suren Tamang, Zilla Panchayat members, Gram Panchayat members, officials from DIC Namchi and the local entrepreneurs and youth of the constituency.
Addressing the gathering, the Area MLA Mr NB Pradhan emphasised the need for youth to actively explore various government schemes for their benefit, and  also encouraged them to embrace entrepreneurship as a means to achieve self-reliance and financial independence. He underscored  that with the right guidance, resources, and determination, young individuals can transform innovative ideas into sustainable ventures, thereby contributing to their individual growth and local economy.
He further informed that the governments have always remained committed to fostering a supportive ecosystem for the MSMEs in the region by providing continuous assistance, policy support, and access to financial and technical resources, ensuring that aspiring entrepreneurs and existing business owners are empowered to growth and success.
General Manager, DIC Namchi, Mr Dinesh Pradhan, in his address, stressed about the importance of MSMEs in strengthening the local economy and the role of government schemes in providing financial and technical support, as well as a marketing platform to help their businesses.
During the programme, various central and state government schemes and their benefits were thoroughly presented by the Inspectors of DIC Namchi.
Inspector DIC Namchi, Ms Ananta Subba highlighted the eligibility criteria, incentives and benefits of the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) in promoting self-employment through financial assistance for setting up micro-enterprises. The scheme is focused on generating employment opportunities, particularly for rural youth, and encouraged aspiring entrepreneurs to avail themselves of its benefits.
Inspector Mr Avishek Tamang, in his presentation, talked about the UNNATI scheme, which aims to provide economic and employment opportunities by  nurturing existing local industries, particularly in environmentally sustainable sectors.
Inspector, Ms Pooja Rai, spoke about the PM Vishwakarma scheme and underlined how the scheme is focused on helping traditional artisans and craftsmen, thereby offering financial assistance, skill upgradation, and training on modern tools to enable them to sustain and expand their work, while preserving traditional skills and heritage.
Inspector Ms Susanta Subba talked about the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), which is an initiative towards building an inclusive digital marketplace to help local business owners. She explained how the ONDC facilitates small businesses in accessing wider markets and ensures fair competition, thereby reducing dependence on large e-commerce platforms and promoting digital economic growth.
An open discussion session was also held, where  the participants actively interacted with the officials of DIC Namchi, raising queries related to the scheme's eligibility, required documents, subsidy, market linkages etc.
