Awareness programme on MSME schemes under RAMP held at Rhenock and Tarpin

Pakyong, April 06 (IPR): Under the ongoing district-wide initiative, a one-day awareness programme on State and Central Government Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) schemes under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) programme was conducted across two locations, at Rhenock Gram Prashasan Kendra Hall and Tarpin GPK, today.
The programme is being organised by the District Industries Centre (DIC), Pakyong, under the Commerce and Industries Department, Government of Sikkim, in collaboration with the Sikkim Entrepreneurship and Economic Development (SEED) Cell.
The primary objective of the programme is to create awareness on various State and Central Government MSME schemes being implemented by the department for existing and aspiring entrepreneurs.
Officer on Special Duty to MLA, Rhenock Constituency, Mr DB Chettri, attended the programme as the chief guest at Rhenock GPK, while Officer on Special Duty, IT Department, Mr Bum Tshering Yonzon, attended the programme as the chief guest at Tarpin GPK.
Addressing the gathering, OSD, Mr DB Chettri, acknowledged the efforts of the department and the SEED Cell in organising the programme and outlined its objective of promoting a prosperous Sikkim through entrepreneurship.
He stated that the initiative aims to take government schemes directly to the people, enabling them to understand and access available opportunities. He highlighted that such efforts are intended to strengthen economic self-reliance and improve livelihoods at the grassroots level.
He further urged the attendees to consider entrepreneurship as a viable option and to make use of the schemes and support mechanisms provided by the Government, noting that these initiatives are designed to facilitate sustainable income generation and reduce dependence on conventional employment avenues.
Further, OSD, IT Department, Mr Bum Tshering Yonzon, outlined the formation of the SEED Cell and briefly highlighted the objectives of the programme. He noted that while a job sustains the livelihood of an individual, entrepreneurship, driven by creativity and productivity, has the potential to generate broader and more sustainable livelihoods.
He further encouraged participants to explore opportunities to establish their own enterprises, not only for self-employment but also to create employment for others.
his keynote address, Organisational Secretary, SEED Cell, Mr Tashi Ongdup Lepcha, stated that the primary focus of the Cell is to promote and strengthen local entrepreneurship and to bridge the gap between the Government and entrepreneurs.
He elaborated on its working mechanisms, including efforts to build skills and capacities among individuals and groups, and outlined various activities undertaken to support entrepreneurs across the State.
Reiterating the vision of the Chief Minister and Chief Patron of SEED Cell, Mr Prem Singh Tamang, and the motto of the Cell, “One Family One Entrepreneur,” he emphasised the need to encourage at least one entrepreneurial initiative in every household to enhance self-reliance and income generation. He further underscored the importance of motivating the younger generation to explore entrepreneurship opportunities and stated that the Cell provides guidance and facilitation support.
Additionally, he informed about various State Government initiatives and schemes aimed at promoting entrepreneurship. He urged collective efforts towards realising the vision of Sunaulo, Samriddha and Samarth Sikkim through entrepreneurship.
A series of technical presentations was delivered during the programme, covering various schemes and digital platforms.
Inspector, DIC Pakyong, Mr Jikmee Lepcha, outlined that the District Industries Centre aims to promote entrepreneurship and industrial development to support economic growth in the district.
He also delivered presentations on RAMP, PM Vishwakarma and (Uttar Poorva Transformative Industrialisation Scheme), UNNATI, 2024, and briefed on the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) and the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal.
An overview of the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) was presented by staff, DIC Pakyong, Mr Dilip Ruchal.
Likewise, a presentation on Udyam and FSSAI registration was delivered by staff, DIC Pakyong, Ms Prerna Pradhan.
An interactive session followed, during which participants raised queries regarding the schemes.
The programme was attended by Zilla Panchayat, Rhenock Tarpin, Mrs Babita Gadaily; Panchayat members of Rhenock GPU and Tarpin GPU; Block Development Officer, Rhenock, Mr SK Dhungana; Assistant Director, PRI, Mr Madhu Sudhan Sharma; District Coordinator, SEED Cell, Mr Kaushal Lamichaney; officials from SEED Cell; Self Help Group members, aspiring entrepreneurs and members of the public.
