Awareness Programme on Trout Farming conducted at Regu, Pakyong

Pakyong, 30 August (IPR): A training programme for trout farmers, organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Gangtok, in collaboration with Central Agriculture Unit (CAU), CAEPHT Ranipool, and the Department of Fisheries, took place at Regu today.
The training aimed to equip the farmers with the knowledge of feeding management, tank hygiene and disease control strategies, further enhancing their trout farming system.
During the programme, Dr Prakash Sharma, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK East Sikkim, emphasised the role of feed quality and proper methods in maintaining fish health. He also discussed the significance of fish preservation techniques and underscored the importance of biofiltration in ensuring the cleanliness of the tanks.
Dr Sharma encouraged the farmers to engage in trout farming, highlighting its potential for significant market growth due to its properties. In addition, he shared suggestions to enhance the marketing of the items through venturing into the production of value-added items like sausages, pickles, and other items.
Likewise, Mr Norbu Tamang, Field Manager, CAU, emphasised the key attributes of the Mobile Based Agro Advisory Services (m4agri) application.

Also present were Mr Yogesh Dangal, Block Officer, Fisheries Department, Ms Munna Rai, Field Coordinator, CAU along with the progressive farmers.
