Awareness Programme on Central and State Schemes reaches Phodong

Mangan, September 12(IPR): As part of its ongoing awareness drive, the District Industries Centre (DIC), Mangan, under the Department of Commerce and Industries, in collaboration with the Sikkim Entrepreneurship and Economic Development Cell (SEED Cell), conducted a one-day awareness programme at Phodong Senior Secondary School today.
The programme was designed to build a strong support system for unemployed youth, budding entrepreneurs, and existing business owners. Participants were informed about various government schemes, financial support options, online marketing platforms, and mentorship opportunities aimed at helping them achieve their entrepreneurial and career aspirations.
The event was graced by MLA, 29-Kabi Lungchok Constituency and Advisor, Culture Department and Health & Family Welfare Department, Mr Thenlay Tshering Bhutia, as the Chief Guest. Also in attendance were Zilla Adhyaksha, Mangan District, Mr Kado Lepcha, Panchayat President and Members, General Manager DIC (Gangtok and Mangan), Mr Prakash Rai, President, SEED Cell, Mr Raj Lama, officers from Commerce and Industries Department and other dignitaries.
The day began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by a welcome address from Mr Tashi Ongdup Lepcha, District Coordinator, SEED Cell, Mangan.
General Manager of DIC, Gangtok and Mangan District, Mr Prakash Rai, delivered a detailed address on the objectives, roles, and initiatives of the DIC. He highlighted its efforts to promote entrepreneurship, strengthen local industries and create employment opportunities, further emphasizing the vision of “One Family, One Entrepreneur.”
The keynote address was delivered by President, SEED Cell, Dr Raj Lama, who underlined the ongoing efforts of the SEED Cell in collaboration with the Commerce and Industries Department in encouraging the youth and aspiring entrepreneurs through skill enhancement and government-backed schemes. He urged the youth to seize these opportunities for self reliance and growth. Additionally, he guided participants on leveraging ONDC, GeM and e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart for wider market access. He urged the students to prepare a mindset for entrepreneurship for a successful life ahead.
This was followed by technical presentations on various central government schemes:
• PMEGP was explained by JE, DIC Gangtok, Mr Norbu Lepcha, who discussed loan facilities, subsidy benefits, eligibility criteria, and shared inspiring success stories from the region.
• UNNATI was presented by Deputy Director, DIC Gangtok, Mr Janak Chettri, focusing on skill training, capacity building, and financial support for youth-led businesses.
• PM Vishwakarma was introduced by SLPMU Mr Prem Chettri, who highlighted its support for traditional artisans through recognition, training, modern tools, credit and marketing assistance. He also explained the importance of Udyam Registration for MSMEs, FSSAI certification for food businesses and the scope of digital marketing.
An interactive session was also held, allowing participants to clarify their queries directly with the experts.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Mr Thenlay Tshering Bhutia emphasised that career opportunities are not confined to government jobs. He encouraged young people to embrace innovation, develop self-reliance and view entrepreneurship as a means of creating opportunities for themselves and their communities. The MLA urged the people of Kabi Lungchok constituency to avail of the opportunities provided by the Government at the doorstep. He encouraged them to make the most of the awareness programme and assured necessary handholding in their endeavours.
The programme saw participation from Zilla Panchayat members, Panchayat Presidents and members, unemployed youth, farmers, entrepreneurs from Ramthang Tanek GPU and Ronggong Tomlong GPU, along with officials and staff of the organizing departments.
The programme was conducted by Inspector, DIC Mangan, Mr CM Chettri.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by CLC President, Mr Subash Subba.
