Awareness Programme on “Scholarship Schemes” held at DAC Soreng
Soreng, September 2 (IPR): The Social Welfare Department Soreng, today conducted an awareness programme on “Scholarship Schemes” available for students, at the conference hall of District Administrative Centre, Soreng.
The programme had presence and participation of Ms Kabita Subba Joint Secretary (Scholarship Division/Social Welfare Department), Mrs Prativa Tamang Senior Welfare Officer (Social Welfare Department Soreng), Ms Srijana Karkidoli AD (IT) and Institution Nodal Officers (INO) of Colleges and Schools of the district.
At the outset, a power point presentation on various centrally sponsored scholarship schemes was presented by Ms Jyotsna Rai (Welfare Inspector), where she informed that the Social Welfare Department provides scholarship to students belonging to various category of communities, mentioning that the funding ratio of the scholarship schemes stands 90:10. Highlighting the scholarship schemes under various Ministries such as Ministry of Social and Justice Empowerment, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, and Ministry of Minority Affairs, she urged all the present INOs to spread the information about the scholarship in their respective schools, ensuring that the students are aware of available scholarships, eligibility criteria and application processes. Further, she mentioned the closing dates of verification on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP), 10/10/2024 for students, 31/10/2024 for INOs and 15/11/2024 for DNOs.
During the presentation, Joint Secretary stressed on top class education and scholarship to minority which comes under Central Sector scheme wherein she highlighted the advantages particularly in Other Backward Classes (OBC) category. In addition, the Institution Nodal Officers (INO) were asked for bio authentication, INOs authentication and KYC verification.
AD (IT) emphasising the procedures related to the One Time Registration (OTR) and face authentication, she informed that the OTR is mandatory to apply for scholarships on National Scholarship Portal (NSP), while NSP OTR mobile app is needed for face authentication, which requires an Aadhaar card. Additionally, she informed that the Adhaar card should be seeded with bank account and mobile number.
The programme also included a discussion session where the participants could clarify their doubts regarding registration and schemes. Also, a short video on the OTR registration process on the NSP for the students was showcased.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mrs Prativa Tamang (Senior Welfare Officer).
