Awareness Programme Held for Under-Performing GPUs Under Cooperative Week

Pakyong, December 10 (IPR): A one-day awareness programme was held at Rekyep Panchayat Hall for the under-performing GPUs of Riwa Machong and Barapathing as part of the International Year of Cooperatives (IYC) observance and the 72nd Cooperative Week Celebration. The programme aimed to strengthen cooperative functioning and improve the participation of rural societies in various cooperative-led initiatives.
Mr Bhim Lall Pandey, President of Luing MPCS, and Mr Badrinath Gautam, Manager of Luing Perbing MPCS, joined the programme as Resource Persons, with Luing MPCS acknowledged as the best-performing cooperative in the state.
During the programme, Mr Rinchen Kaloen, AGM of SISCO Bank, addressed the participants on financial literacy, KCC loans, and government schemes available to farmers and rural households. He also outlined the ongoing PACS computerization process aimed at improving transparency and service delivery within cooperative institutions.
Similarly, Mr Badrinath Gautam, Manager of Luing Perbing MPCS, briefed the gathering on loan operations, consumer services, daily sales practices, and the integration of PACS under digital transformation. He outlined the need for accuracy in record maintenance and consistent service to members.
Speaking on loan facilities, repayment systems, defaulter management, dairy-related activities, and government schemes available to cooperative members, Mr Bhim Lall Pandey, President of the MPCS, highlighted the cooperative’s efforts to maintain transparency, ensure timely audits, and support activities that contribute to community welfare.
Addressing the gathering, Ms Rohini Mukhia (ARCS) urged Barapathing and Riwa Machong MPCS to diversify beyond consumer-oriented activities and take up programmes offered by various ministries. She emphasised the importance of Aadhaar collection to support the computerisation process and requested cooperation from Panchayat representatives. She further explained CSC services, Jan Aushadhi outlets, LPG distribution opportunities, and encouraged more individuals to register with the Cooperation Department to strengthen local cooperative networks.
Panchayat President of Riwa Machong GPU, Mr Manoj Rai, remarked that Machong MPCS and Riwa Machong MPCS should explore opportunities to strengthen and expand their participation in initiatives introduced through central and state agencies. He encouraged the societies to gradually adopt and scale such activities in the coming months.
The programme concluded with a call for collective effort from all stakeholders to reinforce cooperative development at the grassroots level. Participants expressed willingness to work with government departments, banks, and community groups to enhance cooperative performance and ensure sustained progress in the region.
