Date: 17-Jul-2025
Pakyong, July 17 (IPR):
The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Pakyong District, conducted an awareness camp today at the Kartok Namcheybong Dairy Centre under the Assistance to State for Control of Animal Diseases (ASCAD) scheme. The session was spearheaded by Dr Kinchokla Bhutia, Joint Director of the department.
The camp aimed to educate local farmers and livestock owners on the growing threat of emerging livestock diseases such as Lumpy Skin Disease, African Swine Fever, and Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome. Alongside disease-specific discussions, the programme also addressed best practices in animal health management and strategies for disease prevention and control.
Participants were also briefed on various government schemes including the Milk Incentive Scheme, Pig Production Incentive Scheme, Cattle Insurance Scheme, Kisan Credit Card (KCC), and the Skilled Youth Start-Up Scheme (SYSS), aimed at supporting and empowering rural farmers and livestock producers.
An interactive session allowed farmers to raise their concerns and share local experiences, promoting dialogue between officials and the farming community. The programme concluded with the distribution of essential veterinary medicines and dewormers to the participants.
The event was graced by Zilla Panchayat Member from Namcheybong, Mr Mandeep Kumar Rai and attended by board members of the Kartok Namcheybong Dairy Milk Cooperative Society, along with numerous local dairy farmers.
