Arithang-Chongrang Gram Panchayat observes World Menstrual Hygiene Day with an awareness programme
Gyalshing, May 28 (IPR): Arithang-Chongrang Gram Panchayat, under the Yuksam-Tashiding constituency of Gyalshing district, organized an awareness program on menstrual hygiene at Govt. Gangyap Secondary School to observe World Menstrual Hygiene Day. The event aimed to raise awareness about menstrual hygiene and break societal taboos surrounding menstruation.
The programme was chaired by Ms. Ganga Maya Chettri, Panchayat President of Arithang-Chongrang GPU. She was accompanied by Ms. Beena Subba, Vice President, Mr. Purna Kumar Chettri (PDA), Panchayat members Mr. Tek Bdr Subba and Mr. Lok Bdr Chettri, teachers, and a large number of students.
Ms Ganga Maya Chettri, Panchayat President, emphasized that the goal of the event was to raise awareness about menstrual health and the proper use of menstrual products.
The awareness programme educated students on menstruation hygiene management. Various resource persons discussed the natural cycle of menstruation, the importance of hygiene, and societal taboos. They emphasized maintaining hygiene during menstruation and encouraged students to discuss menstruation openly to help eradicate the stigma associated with it.
As part of the event, the Arithang-Chongrang Gram Panchayat installed a sanitary vending machine and an incinerator at Gangyap Sec. School. This step aims to improve access to menstrual products and ensure proper disposal methods. Additionally, free sanitary pads and awareness pamphlets were distributed among the students of Gangyap and Middle Chongrang Secondary Schools.
