Annaprasan Ceremony to mark the first complimentary feeding of infants under the BBBP Programme
Mangan, Feb 28: The Annaprasan ceremony marking the first complementary feeding of infants was successfully conducted under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao banner at Upper Lingdong Anganwadi Centre and Onglop Anganwadi Centre on 27th February, 2026.
The programme was organised with the active participation of Anganwadi Workers, mothers, and community members.
The ceremony celebrated the important milestone of initiating complementary feeding for infants who have reached six months of age.
During the programme, mothers were sensitised on the significance of the First 1000 Days — the critical period from conception up to two years of age — which plays a vital role in a child’s physical growth, brain development, and overall well-being. Emphasis was laid on exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, timely introduction of nutritious complementary feeding thereafter, dietary diversity, hygiene practices, and responsive feeding.
Awareness was also imparted on the importance of routine immunisation to protect children from preventable diseases. Mothers were encouraged to ensure timely vaccination as per the immunisation schedule.
To make the programme more interactive and engaging, a quiz competition on maternal and child health, nutrition, and childcare practices was conducted. The mothers actively participated, demonstrating enthusiasm and interest. Gifts were handed over to the quiz winners and beneficiaries as a token of encouragement.
Overall, the Annaprasan ceremony served as both a cultural celebration and an effective awareness platform for promoting optimal infant and young child feeding practices.
