Ananta Theatre Gangtok announces launch of ‘Sikkim Comedy War'
Gangtok, February 9 (IPR): Chairman of the Sikkim Music, Drama, Dance and Film Board and Chief Patron of the event, Mr Tashi Tshering Bhutia, announced the launch of ‘Sikkim Comedy War’,a comedy talent competition initiative, at the Press Club of Sikkim, Metropoint, Gangtok, today.
Addressing the media, the Chairman emphasised the importance of providing a platform for the youth of Sikkim and stated that the initiative aims to encourage creative expression through comedy. He expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister, Mr Prem Singh Tamang, for supporting initiatives that motivate content creators to showcase their talent.
Highlighting the relevance of culturally rooted humour, he described comedy as an effective medium for communication and awareness. He also appreciated Ananta Theatre Gangtok for creating a structured and meaningful platform for young artists across the State. In his concluding remarks, he invited content creators and youth to participate in the event and contribute to strengthening the State’s entertainment sector.
CEO Ananta Theatre Gangtok, Mr Bhupal Siwa, reiterated the Chairman’s views and informed that ‘Sikkim Comedy War’ is being organised under the guidance and inspiration of the Chief Minister, Mr Prem Singh Tamang. He stated that the competition is open to comedians from across the State and will include online and physical auditions, mono and duo performances, professional workshops, semi-finals and a grand finale. Online auditions will commence on February 10, 2026.
Head of Sikkim Comedy War and Semifinalist of Comedy Champion Nepal, Mr Biren Pradhan, informed that the theme of the event is ‘Laughter with a Purpose’. He assured transparency, professional mentorship and fair evaluation throughout the competition. He added that the themes of performances would reflect social realities of Sikkimese society, with the event aiming to empower young voices, revive local humour and promote meaningful cultural content that blends entertainment with social responsibility.
