AYURVIDYA Mental Health Awareness Programme Held at Rongneck Secondary School
Gangtok, November 4, 2025: The Department of AYUSH, Government of Sikkim, organized an “Ayurvidya Mental Health Awareness and AYUSH Sensitization Programme” at Rongneck Secondary School, Gangtok. The event aimed to promote mental health awareness, emotional resilience, and understanding of AYUSH systems—Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Homeopathy, and Sowa-Rigpa—as pillars of holistic health and wellness.
Led by Dr. Sumiran Tamang (Medical Officer, AYUSH), the session highlighted stress-coping mechanisms through AYUSH-based lifestyle practices, mindfulness, yogic techniques, a balanced diet, and preventive healthcare. Students were encouraged to adopt self-care habits and value traditional knowledge, promoting mental and physical harmony.
The programme also sensitized students to career opportunities in the AYUSH sector, including roles for medical officers, therapists, and paramedical professionals, alongside technical training avenues such as Panchakarma Technician, Naturopathy Assistant, Yoga Instructor, and AYUSH Pharmacist courses.
Dr. Tamang emphasized the Government of Sikkim’s commitment to strengthening AYUSH infrastructure, with plans to develop institutions for Ayurveda, Naturopathy, Homeopathy, and Sowa-Rigpa, establish research and training centres, and integrate AYUSH systems into community health and preventive care.
A total of 108 participants, including students and staff, attended the event, which concluded with the message that mental health is integral to overall well-being, and AYUSH embodies India’s holistic and sustainable approach to health.
