A real-time mock drill on earthquake and earthquake-induced landslide disaster at Singtam concludes
Gangtok, November 17 (IPR): A comprehensive mock drill simulating an earthquake and a landslide, along with related disaster scenarios, concluded today at Singtam and Sirwani.
The mock exercise at Singtam was conducted at the heart of Singtam Bazaar under the supervision of Rangpo MEO Mr Ujjwal Pandey, while the mock exercise at Sirwani was conducted under the supervision of Range Officer, Forest Department, Mr Til Hang Subba, near Kali Khola. The large-scale exercise aimed to test and improve disaster preparedness, response coordination, and resource management among key stakeholders.
The day’s events culminated in a debriefing session held at the gymnasium hall of PM Shri Singtam Senior Secondary School, where SDM Rabdang Mr Roshan Subba expressed his deep appreciation for the tireless efforts of the line departments, volunteers, officials, and military and paramilitary agencies involved in the drill.
During the session, incident site in-charges from Sirwani and Singtam shared their experiences and identified areas that could be enhanced in future drills. They highlighted key operational aspects and suggested potential improvements to further refine the disaster response framework.
Following this, senior officials including the Incident Commander, Rangpo MEO, ITBP observers, Medical Team, and a representative from the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) provided their insights and valuable lessons learned from the mock drill. Their feedback underscored the importance of seamless coordination, efficient communication, and rapid deployment of resources during a disaster event.
With this, the state-level mock drill on earthquake-induced landslide in Singtam successfully came to an end, leaving participants better equipped to handle real-life disaster scenarios.
