A Joint Inspection was conducted to assess the construction of the culvert at Chujachen, Rongli

Pakyong, 26 July (IPR): Mr LD Lamtha, Secretary, Water Resources Department, accompanied by Mr Agawane Rohan Ramesh, DC Pakyong and members of a joint committee conducted a joint inspection to assess the construction of a culvert at Chujachen Osti Point today.
The inspection team comprised Mr Deepak Singh, Chief Engineer, Water Resources Department; Mr Mahendra Chettri, SDM (H.Q) Pakyong; Mr Sonam Tshering Lepcha, SDM Rongli; Colonnel KA Siddique, General Manager, NHIDCL; Mr Arjun Gazmer, DE Water Resources Department; Mr Bikash Pradhan, DE Roads and Bridges Department, along with officials from various line departments and Panchayats.
The inspection was carried out at Sundunglakha, wherein the team inspected the damaged culvert named Audit 1 and checked the water discharge assessment from the GATI outlet.
In addition, the team evaluated the condition of the drainage system of the existing culvert and jhoras at Osti Point while taking stock of the ongoing road construction at NHIDCL.
During the inspection, it was identified that culverts have to be constructed at designated areas for the diversion of water in the proper drainage system in order to avoid damage. They also acknowledged issues concerning the delay of ongoing works and water scarcity in the region and directed the authorities to be accountable for addressing the matter with proper assistance at the earliest.
Furthermore, a gathering took place at the auditorium hall of Chujachen Senior Secondary School, wherein the public expressed their grievances and challenges caused by the improper water channelling, which resulted in damage to their properties and agricultural land.
In response, Mr LD Lamtha inquired about the existing drainage system in the region and suggested broadening the jhoras to increase the maximum flow of water capacity. He further urged the concerned departments to work in tandem to resolve the issue.
Likewise, DC Pakyong engaged in conversation with the families impacted and assured to address their issues at the earliest. He urged the local governing bodies to arrange community meetings in their respective areas and share details about the plan to build culverts to address the current problem.
He also assured that the culverts would be built while adhering to the safety standards required for public safety. Additionally, he directed the concerned officials of NHIDCL to initiate the maintenance of the existing jhoras and work towards the restoration of the water drainage system so that the diversion of water gets channelled correctly and gets disposed of in the proper drainage.
