A Day for Mother Earth, ceremonial plantation drive celebrated at Soreng
Soreng, July 7(IPR):
A Ceremonial Plantation Drive ‘A Day For Mother Earth ‘ was conducted today at Soreng, Lower Singling near Fisheries Department. It is a part of the continued activity of the ‘Sikkim Paryavaran Parva’ themed ‘Leave a Green Legacy’ which commenced on the 1st of June and is set to be carried out till the 14th.
The plantation ceremony was graced by MLA (Soreng-Chakung) Mr Aditya Golay as the chief guest, upon his arrival the ceremony commenced, whereby he planted new sapling along with other dignitaries present. Earlier a sticker campaign was also conducted to promote the campaign.
The plantation drive also featured government initiatives such as ‘Mero Rukh Mero Santati’ & ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Nam’.
Present during the plantation were (ADC-I) Mr DR Bista, SDM (HQ) Mr Prem K Subba, Joint Director (Fisheries) Mr Lobsang Tamang, DFO (T) Mr Tseten Tashi Lepcha, DFO (E&SC) Mr Joseph Lepcha, DFO (NTFP) Mrs Bindya Subba, Deputy Director (Sports and Youth Affairs) Mrs Mamita Gurung, DPO (Zilla) Mr Kumar Subba, Zilla members, officers and officials of Forest & Environment department and officials of other line departments.
