84th State Level Bankers' Committee Meeting for Sikkim Concludes
Gangtok, September 2 (IPR): The 84th State Level Bankers' Meeting (SLBC) for the quarter ending on 30.06.2025 was conducted at a local hotel, here today.
The meeting also marked the occassion of Special SLBC Meeting on 3-month nationwide Financial Inclusion Saturation Campaign launched by India's Department of Financial Services (DFS) from July 1 to September 30, 2025, to bring all unbanked citizens and eligible individuals into the financial mainstream at the Gram Panchayat (GP) and Urban Local Body (ULB) levels.It is to be noted that the Annual Credit Plan 2025-2026 was launched during the meeting by the dignitaries.
Controller-cum-Secretary Finance Department Government of Sikkim Mr MCP Pradhan, in his address, extended gratitude to all the Bank officials and Government officials for their unwavering support towards development of the State in agriculture, horticulture and tourism sector. The Secretary applauded the banks for increase in the Credit:Deposit Ratio as compared to the previous year. He also applauded the efforts of PSU banks for their exceptional performance. In his concluding remarks, the Secretary expressed hope that the Private Banks will follow on the footsteps of PSU banks on reaching their targets and work towards establishment of a self-reliant and prosperous Sikkim.
Regional Director Reserve Bank of India Mr T Jamang, in his address, emphasized the importance of data accuracy for bank officials, acknowledging their professionalism. He applauded the bank's improvement and stressed the need for synergy with line departments to foster comprehensive development in the state.
Under Secretary (FI) DFS Ministry of Finance Government of India Mr Surinder Kumar, called SLBC as a forum which is vital for financial inclusion in the State. Stating that SLBC an extended arm of the Government towards total financial inclusion in the State, he concluded his address by stressing on the unique challenges of the State alongside various opportunities which can be capitalised by both the Bankers and the line departments.
General Manager-cum-Officer in Charge NABARD Mr Ajay Kumar Sinha highlighted the unique and vibrant economy of the State wherein agriculture and horticulture thrives under the banner of Organic State. He congratulated the State officials on being the best State in terms of sustainable goals. Speaking on the same context, he cited the immense potential Sikkim has due to its unique geography and the brand of Organic State. Further, the GM highlighted supported by NABARD towards the State such as Financial Inclusion Activity, Development of Cooperative Society and development of Fisheries sector.
During the course of the meeting, various agendas were discussed at great length through a power point presentation. They are as follows:
1. Credit:Deposit Ratio of banks in Sikkim.
2. Review of Performance of banks under Annual Credit Plan including Non-Priority Sector.
3. Performance of Banks under Priority Sector Advance under Annual Credit Plan 2024-2025 including Agriculture & Allied Activities, Kisan Credit Card (KCC), KCC Animal Husbandry, KCC Fisheries, MSME Sectorand Other Priority Sectors.
4. Achievement of banks under Non-Priority Sector.
5. Review of Government Sponsored Schemes such as Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), Uttar Poorva Transformative Industrialization Scheme (UNNATI), PM Vishwakarma Scheme and PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME), PM Svanidhi Scheme, PM Surya Ghar: Mufti Bijli Yojana (PMSGMBY), PM Mantri Mudra Yojana (MUDRA) and Stand-Up India scheme.
6. Promotion of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) by Banks.
7. Housing Finance (Priority Sector) by Banks.
8. Achievement under Education Loan.
9. Progress Status of SBI Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI), status of Social Security Schemes such as PMJDY, PMSBY, PMJJBY and APY, no of Financial Literary Camps conducted by banks, Central KYC records registry (CKYCR) and status of new RSETI in Sikkim.
Earlier the welcome address was delivered by Convenor SLBC-cum-GM SBI Kolkata Circle Mr Teekam Singh Gehlot. The vote of thanks was delivered by Regional Manager SBI Mr Kumar Nitesh.
The day saw the presence of Secretary Urban Development Department Government of Sikkim Ms Yogeeta Rai, Secretary Fisheries Department Government of Sikkim Ms Roshni Rai, Senior Officers of various line departments and Officers of regional banks.
