80th Independence Day Intra Sikkim Open Men's Football Tournament continues at Mamring
Pakyong, August 02 (IPR): The 80th Independence Day Intra Sikkim Open Men's Constituency-Level Football Tournament, organised by the Independence Day Celebration Committee (IDDC), 19 Rhenock Constituency, continued at Mamring Senior Secondary School with three matches today.
The tournament was attended by the Mayor, Gangtok Municipal Corporation, Ms Tshering Palden Bhutia, as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Mayor, GMC, Ms Tshering Palden Bhutia, congratulated the organising committee for conducting the tournament and extended her best wishes to all the participating teams. Encouraging the students, she stated that participation in cultural activities is also an integral part of education and wished them success in the ongoing pre-Independence Day celebrations.
The Mayor also informed the gathering about the forthcoming Ama Samman Diwas programme to be held at Namchi, stating that the initiative has been introduced by the State Government to honour mothers for their invaluable contribution to society. She invited mothers from the area to participate in the programme.
The matches played during the day saw SSB 69th Battalion take on YBC Assam Lingzey, with YBC Assam Lingzey registering a 7-0 victory.
In the second match, Tribal Sporting Club faced 32 Sangha FC, where Tribal Sporting Club won by 8-0.
In the third match, Ranka Boys FC faced Kripa-7 FC, where Ranka Boys FC emerged victorious by 4-0.
The tournament also featured cultural performances by students of Mamring Senior Secondary School, Rungdong Primary School and Pushpanjali School, Mamring.
Also present at the event were Advisor to the Chief Minister, Mr Bishnu Kumar Khatiwada; Zilla Upadhyaksha, Pakyong District, Mrs Prabha Pradhan; Confidential Assistant to the Chief Minister, Mr Urgen Lepcha; members of Pakyong Nagar Panchayat; SE and DE, Roads and Bridges Department; SE and DE, Power Department; AE, GMC; AE, PDZP; officials from various line departments, local gentry and general public.
