80th Independence Day Celebrations Commence at Kyongsa Stadium, Gyalshing

Gyalshing, August 15 (IPR): The 80th Independence Day celebrations commenced with great enthusiasm at Kyongsa Stadium, Gyalshing, today. Minister for Housing and Buildings and Labour Departments-cum-Area MLA (Yangthang), Mr Bhim Hang Limboo, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The Chief Guest was accorded a warm welcome upon his arrival and was received by District Collector, Gyalshing, Mr Tenzing D. Denzongpa; Superintendent of Police, Gyalshing, Ms Paru Ruchal; Chairman, RDD, Mr Narayan Khatiwara; Additional District Collector, Gyalshing, Mr Suresh Rai; Sub-Divisional Magistrates; and Heads of Offices.
The programme commenced with a Guard of Honour presented by the Sikkim Police. The Chief Guest thereafter hoisted the National Flag, followed by the National Anthem presented by PM Shri GGSSS, Kyongsa, formally marking the commencement of the Independence Day celebrations.
The ceremony featured a March Past by contingents of the Sikkim Police, SSB, Forest Department and students, along with a School Band display by PM Shri GSSS, Pelling. Khadas were also presented to the Chief Guest and dignitaries as part of the ceremonial proceedings.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Mr Rajesh Thapa, CEO/Education, followed by the reading of the Governor of Sikkim’s message by the District Collector, Gyalshing, and the message of the Chief Minister of Sikkim by the Additional District Collector, Gyalshing.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Mr Bhim Hang Limboo extended his greetings to the people on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day. He highlighted the significance of Independence Day and called upon everyone to uphold the values of unity, patriotism, responsibility and collective progress. He also appreciated the contributions of government officials, students, cultural groups, security personnel and the public in making the celebrations meaningful and successful.

The day also witnessed the felicitation of beneficiaries under Aama Sahayog Yojana 2026, District School Toppers in the 2026 Board Examinations, including four Class XII toppers and one Class X topper, as well as the Best Contingent.
The celebrations continued with a vibrant cultural programme featuring Maruni Dance by GSS, Middle Gyalshing; Patriotic Dance by Kidzee Globus International; Rai Dance by Nova Bliss School, Tikjuk; ‘Vande Mataram’ presented in sign language by BAC, Gyalshing; Lepcha Dance by DIET, Gyalshing; Bhutia Dance by GSSS, Sakyong; Limboo Dance by GSSS, Lingchom; Nepali Dance by PM Shri GSSS, Pelling; and Patriotic Dance by PM Shri GGSSS, Kyongsa.
A major highlight of the day was the Open Football Tournament played between Gyalshing Police and Siniolchu FC. Siniolchu FC emerged victorious with a 1–0 win. Mr Robin Chettri of Siniolchu FC was adjudged the Best Player of the tournament.
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Mr Aman Jogi, AO/LR&DMD.
