80th Independence Day Celebrated with Patriotic Fervour in Mangan
Mangan, August 15 (IPR): The 80th Independence Day was celebrated at Mangan Public Ground, today.
The programme was graced by the Minister for Forest and Environment, Science and Technology and Mines and Geology Departments, Mr Pintso Namgyal Lepcha, as the chief guest.
The celebration commenced with the unfurling of the National Flag, National Song and National Anthem by the students of Mangan Senior Secondary School. The Chief Guest inspected the parade contingent and witnessed the march past by the participating contingents.
The programme featured a welcome address by SDM Mangan, Mr Sandeep Kumar, followed by the reading of the messages of the Governor of Sikkim Mr Om Prakash Mathur, by DC, Mangan, Mr Anant Jain and the Chief Minister of Sikkim Mr PS Tamang by ADC Mangan, Mr Pema Wangchen Namkarpa.
A band display by PM Shri Mangan Senior Secondary School added to the patriotic spirit of the occasion.
Later, The Shravan Kumar Award for 30 Dzongu Constituency was also presented to 11 awardees in recognition of their dedication and contribution. The awardees were namely:

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest highlighted the significance of Independence Day and spoke about the road conditions in the district. He assured that the government would continue to work towards improving road connectivity and addressing related issues in the coming days. He also highlighted that North Sikkim is the only district to have prepared a budget under the Vibrant Villages Programme, reflecting its focus on development in border areas. He called upon everyone to uphold unity, responsibility and dedication towards the progress of Sikkim and the nation.
A CSR cheque from Canara Bank was also distributed during the programme. The celebration further featured a vibrant cultural programme showcasing local talent and the rich cultural heritage of the district.
Later, Mangan Girls Senior Secondary School was declared the winner of the parade competition. All the cultural performers were also presented with tokens of appreciation in recognition of their enthusiastic participation and contribution to the celebration.
The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by the ADC (Development) Mr Karma Thendup Bhutia, followed by the National Song and National Anthem.
The football final was played between Forest Department and Sikkim Police (Young Orchid) with Sikkim Police (Young Orchid) emerging as the winners with a score of 2-1
