80th Independence Day Celebrated at Sub-Divisional Level in Rongli
Pakyong, August 15 (IPR): The Sub-Divisional level celebration of the 80th Independence Day was held at Garg Bhawan, Rongli Bazar, today under the aegis of the Independence Day Celebration Committee (IDCC), Rongli.
The programme was graced by MLA, Gnathang-Machong Constituency and Advisor, Women, Child, Senior Citizen and Divyangjan Welfare Department, Ms Pamin Lepcha, as the Chief Guest.
Also present in the event were the spouse of MLA Chujachen, Smt Asha Gurung, as the guest of honour, along with SDM Rongli, Mr Suren Kumar Pradhan; Additional Director, HRDD, Rongli, Mr Kumar Pradhan; SDPO Rongli Mr Sanjay Rai; Deputy Director, Education Department, Ms Hem Kalyani Gurung, along with BDO Regu; Zilla Panchayats, Rongli; Panchayat members; Heads of Offices from various Departments; Ex-Serviceman and general public.
The celebration commenced with a ceremonial welcome to the Chief Guest, followed by the National Song. The National Flag was thereafter hoisted by the Chief Guest, followed by the National Anthem.
The ceremonial proceedings continued with a March Past by contingents from various schools and NCC cadets, as part of the Independence Day celebrations.
During the programme, SDM Rongli, Mr Suren Kumar Pradhan, read out the Independence Day message of the Governor of Sikkim, Mr Om Prakash Mathur. This was followed by Deputy Director, Education Department, Ms Hem Kalyani Gurung, who read out the Independence Day message of the Chief Minister of Sikkim, Mr Prem Singh Tamang.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest conveyed Independence Day greetings on behalf of the Chief Minister to the dignitaries, government officials, educators, students and members of the public. Reflecting on the country’s freedom struggle, she recalled the sacrifices of the freedom fighters and emphasised the responsibility of every citizen to uphold the values of freedom, peace and harmony.
She noted that the values of freedom are reflected in inclusive growth, access to education, equal opportunities and continued development across the country, including remote and border areas.
Highlighting the role of the youth, the Chief Guest described young people as positive changemakers and important contributors to the nation’s development. She emphasised their potential as job creators, innovators and entrepreneurs and called for their active participation in complementing government efforts towards the vision of a Viksit Bharat.
The celebration featured a cultural showcase comprising patriotic dance competitions at the junior and senior levels, with participation from various schools across the sub-division.
Following evaluation by the panel of judges, the Junior Level Dance Competition was won by Dolphin Academy, Sungdung, followed by Posokey Primary School in second place and Government Primary School, Lower Dalapchand in third.
In the Senior Level Dance Competition, PM SHRI Lt. Chandra Lal Sharma Government Senior Secondary School, Chujachen secured the first position, while Kumari Pema Tseden Government Secondary School, Rongli and Sunrise Model School secured the second and third positions, respectively.
The celebration also featured March Past competitions at the junior and senior levels, with participation from various schools across the sub-division.
Following evaluation by the panel of judges, Shiv Lata Memorial School secured the first position in the Junior Level Parade Competition, followed by PM SHRI Lt. Chandra Lal Sharma Government Senior Secondary School, Chujachen, in second place and Sunrise Model School in third.
In the Senior Level Parade Competition, Government Secondary School Lingtam secured the first position, with Greenwood Academy Rungdung securing the second position and Kumari Pema Tseden Government Secondary School (KPTGSS)securing the third position.
As part of the day’s sporting activities, the Open Volleyball Tournament reached its final stage with Rongli Driver Association (RDA) taking on Posokey Six. Posokey Six emerged victorious with a 15–9 win in the deciding set.
