80th Independence Day Celebrated at Rangpo
Pakyong, August 15 (IPR): The 80th Independence Day was celebrated at Rangpo Ground today, with Area MLA, West Pendam, Mr LB Das, attending the programme as the chief guest along with his spouse, Mrs Sangeeta Das.
During the programme, the message of the Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim was read by SDM Rangpo, Mrs Sujata Subba, while the message of the Chief Minister was read by the MEO, Rangpo, Mr Tsewang Norbu Bhutia.
Area MLA, Mr L B Das, attended the programme but, owing to ill health, was unable to deliver his address. His address was delivered on his behalf by his Liaisoning Officer, Mr Adip KC Chettri.
A football tournament was organised as part of the Independence Day celebration, titled Lt Sita Devi Sharma Memorial Knockout Football Tournament.
In the final, Jaiswal Brothers defeated Sikkim Dragons 3–1 to emerge as champions. The winning team received a cash prize of ₹10 lakh, while the runner-up received ₹5 lakh.
Other programmes organised as part of the celebration included an Inter-School Parade Competition, Inter-School Dance Competition and Football Competition.
