79th Independence Day Tournament: Sixth Day Highlights
Pakyong, August 05 (IPR):
As part of the 79th Independence Day celebrations, the Open Knockout Football Tournament 2025 enters its sixth day with football matches being unfolded at St Xavier's School Ground, Pakyong, today.
Organised by Pakyong Sporting Club in collaboration with the District Administrative Centre (DAC), Pakyong, the tournament aims to foster sportsmanship and commemorate 50 years of Sikkim's statehood, while promoting the message for Nasha Mukt Sikkim.
The day was graced by the Chairman of the Urban Development Department cum Working President SFA, Ms Chung Chung Bhutia, as the esteemed Chief Guest.
Alongside, Chairman for Culture Department, Ms Bhim Kumari Sharma; Zilla Upadhakshya, Gangtok District, Ms Maya Pradhan; Social Workers, Ms Bimla Gurung, Ms Pavitra Gurung, Ms Bhima Gurung and Ms Menuka Gurung as the Guests of Honour.
The day featured the last match of the first round of the Open Knockout Football Tournament 2025 between State Sports Academy and SEDA College, wherein SEDA College emerged victorious with a score of 4-3.
Likewise, Mr Ajit Gurung, SEDA College, was featured as the Man of the Match for his performance.
Additionally, the District Level Inter School Under-14 Boys Football Tournament, jointly organised by the Sports and Youth Affairs Department and DAC Pakyong, reached its fourth day with a thrilling match between EMRS (Parakha) winning against Pachey SSS with a score of 2-1.
During the event, cultural performances were also presented by the students of Dikling Senior Secondary School.
Also present during the tournament were Zilla Adhakshya, Ms Laden Lhamu Bhutia; DFO(T), Mr Sonam Pintso Bhutia; DFO Social Forestry, Mr BK Dhamala; SHO Pakyong, Mr Pradeep Chettri, along with members from Pakyong Sporting Club and the general public.
