79th Independence Day Knockout Football Tournament to Kick Off in Pakyong
Pakyong, July 31 (IPR): The Pakyong Sporting Club, in collaboration with the District Administrative Centre, Pakyong, is organising the 79th Independence Day Knockout Football Tournament 2025 from 1st August to 15th August 2025. The tournament is being held at St Xavier’s School Ground, Pakyong.
The event is being conducted under the banner of “50 Glorious Years of Sikkim’s Statehood,” coinciding with the 79th Independence Day of the country. The initiative is part of a larger effort to bring together local communities and promote physical activities through organised sporting events.
The tournament will see participation from various teams representing different areas and clubs. Teams have registered through the organising body and have undergone the required verification processes. Matches will be held daily over the fifteen-day period as per a pre-approved schedule.
The theme of this year’s event is “Nasha Mukt Sikkim,” in line with a vision laid out by the Chief Minister, Mr Prem Singh Tamang. The campaign seeks to reduce substance abuse and promote healthy lifestyles through community engagement in sporting activities. Awareness about the theme will be spread through various means during the tournament.
The football matches will follow a knockout format. Teams that lose in each round will be eliminated. The final match, scheduled for 15th August, will mark the culmination of the event, with the prize distribution ceremony and formal closing.
The opening ceremony will take place on 1st August. The tournament is expected to draw spectators from nearby towns and villages. It also aims to strengthen inter-community cooperation and enhance awareness about the importance of physical well-being.
The organising committee has urged all participants, officials, and visitors to adhere to the guidelines and extend cooperation for the successful conduct of the tournament.
