78th Independence Day Football Tournament, Pakyong
Pakyong, 7 August (IPR): The 78th Independence Day Open Knockout Football Tournament 2024, being played at St Xavier's school ground and organised by Pakyong Progressive Youths in collaboration with Pakyong Sporting Club, has reached its fifth day today.
The tournament includes teams from various regions, adding to the Independence Day celebrations with competitive football matches.
In today's opening match, the under-14 boys teams from St. Xavier's School (B) and Pacheykhani Secondary School faced off, with St Xavier's School (B) claiming a 3-0 win. This match marked the second day of the district-level interschool football tournament for under-14 boys, organised by the Sports and Youth Affairs Department of Pakyong District.
In the second match, St. Xavier's School (white) competed against Dikling Senior Secondary School, with Dikling Senior Secondary School emerging victorious with a score of 3-2. Deepesh Chamling from Dikling Senior Secondary School was honoured as Man of the Match.
In addition to Raigoan Junior High School's cultural performance, the St Xavier's School band also performed. The event was honoured by the presence of Mr Phurba Rinzing Sherpa, a social worker and entrepreneur, as the chief guest of the day. Also in attendance were officials from various departments and local gentry.
