75 SGAY Houses Handed Over to Beneficiaries at Deythang
Namchi, September 26 (IPR): A programme for the inauguration and handing over of houses constructed under the Sikkim Garib Awas Yojana (SGAY) was organised by the Block Administrative Centre (BAC), Ravangla, at Deythang today.
The programme was graced by MLA, Barfung and Advisor, Buildings & Housing Department Mr Rikshal Dorjee Bhutia, as the Chief Guest, accompanied by Government Contractor Mr Tashi Gyalpo Bhutia as the Guest of Honour.
At the outset, the Chief Guest inaugurated the house of one of the beneficiaries. Thereafter, keys to the remaining 74 SGAY houses were formally handed over to beneficiaries from eight Gram Panchayat Units (GPUs) under Ravangla and Sikkip BACs.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Rikshal Dorjee Bhutia highlighted the continued efforts of the State Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang towards extending assistance and welfare benefits to the people through various government schemes.
He stated that, under the guidance of the Chief Minister, a total of 12,885 SGAY houses are targeted to be constructed and handed over to eligible beneficiaries across all six districts of Sikkim by 2027.
The MLA further informed that 333 SGAY houses have been allotted for the Barfung Constituency, of which 75 houses are being handed over today. The remaining houses will be handed over to beneficiaries upon completion of construction.
Emphasising the importance of quality and timely construction, Mr Rikshal Dorjee Bhutia advised all contractors engaged in the construction of SGAY houses to closely monitor the progress of works and ensure that the locations of all houses are duly geo-tagged. He also urged Panchayats and officials of the concerned line departments to ensure that houses are allotted to eligible beneficiaries and constructed on the basis of eligibility and priority.
Under Ravangla BAC, the houses handed over to beneficiaries are as follows:
18 houses under Barfung-Zarong GPU
7 houses under Borong-Phamtam GPU
7 houses under Ralong-Namlung GPU
17 houses under Kewzing-Bakhim GPU
6 houses under Rabong-Barfung GPU
4 houses under Rayong-Tinkitam GPU
Under Sikkip BAC, the houses handed over are:
8 houses under Sanganath GPU
8 houses under Lamaten-Tingmo GPU
The Sikkim Garib Awas Yojana (SGAY) is a State Government initiative aimed at providing safe and secure housing to eligible individuals and families in need, thereby supporting their long-term settlement and improving their living conditions. Under the scheme, beneficiaries are provided with fully constructed and furnished houses.
The programme was also attended by Panchayat Presidents, Panchayat Vice Presidents and Panchayat members, OSD to MLA (Barfung) Mr Shiva Kumar Rai, OSD Buildings & Housing Department Mr Yangten Gyatso Bhutia, ADC Development, Ravangla Mr D P Dahal, BDO Ravangla Mr B B Tamang, BDO Sikkip Mr Basant Moktan, along with other dignitaries, officials, beneficiaries and members of the public.
