50 Years of Statehood: Kuzu Cultural Festival 2025 Begins with Grandeur

Gangtok, April 29 (IPR): The curtain raiser for the ‘Kuzu Cultural Festival’ organised by the Culture Department, was graced by Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang-Golay , along with Madam Krishna Rai, at Manan Kendra, today. The event marked the celebration of 50 years of statehood 2025.
The event started off with the official release of cultural brochure of Kuzu Cultural Festival by the Chief Minister.
The Brochure highlighted the key events of the cultural festival commencing from May 1 to May 10, 2025, which serves as a grand platform to exhibit the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the state, bringing together 21 diverse ethnic communities in a spirit of unity and pride.
The Kuzu Cultural Festival not only commemorates a significant historical milestone, but also fosters cultural exchange, inter generational dialogue and a renewed appreciation for the state’s vibrant legacy.
Subsequently, as a token of gratitude, the Chief Minister was presented with a citation by Principal Director cum President, Sikkim Finance Service Association, Mr Tseten Dorjee Bhutia, and Director cum-l Vice President, Sikkim Finance Service Association, Ms P Grace Luksom.
Likewise, the event was followed by the Chief Minister unveiling the “Public Purse” Magazine of Sikkim Finance Service Association.
During the programme, Chief Minister also launched the teaser of the Kuzu Cultural Festival prepared and presented by the Culture Department.The teaser showcased the state's rich cultural heritage, kept alive in its rituals, crafts, and festivals.
To signify the event, a broadway show "Ekai Maato Anek Rang" was displayed depicting the harmony of Sikkim. Performed by Culture Department, the show emphasised the old traditional folk songs of Sikkim within the theme of Agriculture Farming. The objective was to revive old folk songs and traditions of Lepcha, Bhutia, and Nepali Communities.
At the onset, Chief Engineer Culture Department, Mr Rimp Dorjee Lepcha elaborated on the story line, which majorly focused on the schemes and benefits in Sikkim, like, Aama Sashaktikaran Yojana, Aama Sahayog Yojana, Mero Rukh Mero Santati Vatsalya Yojana, Shishu Samridhhi Yojana and Sikkim Paryavaran Parva.
The programme lightened up with a magnificent performance by the choir group of Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) Gangyap under Social Welfare Department.
The programme saw the presence of Speaker and Deputy Speaker, Ministers, MLAs, Advisors to the Government of Sikkim, Chief Secretary, Mayor, Deputy Mayor, HODs/Secretaries and senior state government officials.
Earlier, the welcome address was presented by Secretary Culture Department, Mr Basant Kumar Lama.
The vote of thanks was proposed by OSD Culture Department, Mr Bhawani Ghimiray.
