4th Implementation Support Mission of SIKKIM INSPIRES Held Successfully in Soreng District
Soreng, September 25 (IPR): The 4th Implementation Support Mission (ISM) under the SIKKIM Integrated Service Provision and Innovation for Reviving Economies (SIKKIM INSPIRES) was successfully convened at Rurban Complex Soreng, today.
The meeting was held in the presence of various key stakeholders namely Ms Verena Phipps representing the World Bank as Team Leader, Additional Secretary (Planning & Development Department) and Project Director SIKKIM INSPIRES Mrs Rohini Pradhan, Additional Secretary (Tourism & Civil Aviation Department) Dr. Prerna Chamling, Joint Secretary (Rural Development Department) Ms Rajani Sharma along with the teams and other implementing agencies.
The District Collector and Chairperson of IEIAP Committee Mr Dhiraj Subedi provided an overview of Integrated Economic Inclusion Action Plan (IEIAP) under Sikkim Integrated Service Provision and Innovation for Reviving Economies (SIKKIM INSPIRES). During the presentation, the DC outlined the preparatory activities and strategic roadmap for the IEIAP in the district. Further, the DC emphasised the key findings from consultation that identified notable gaps and challenges as well as untapped economic potential. Additionally, he presented a series of proposed IEIAP interventions to the district’s needs. Also, he elaborated on the expected outcomes of the project that aimed to drive sustainable economic growth, infrastructure development and improved livelihoods.
A major highlight of the presentation was the “Digital Nomad Village” initiative, wherein the DC provided details on the location and selection criteria for the project along with an overview of core components, including infrastructure upgrades, digital connectivity and community based tourism development. He also apprised the house that the local population has shown significant interest in homestay ventures.
The presentation also covered the roles of various stakeholders with a detailed breakdown of departmental collaboration necessary for successful project implementation.
In her address, Additional Secretary (Planning & Development Department) and Project Director SIKKIM INSPIRES Mrs Rohini Pradhan appreciated the District IEIAP activities, offering fruitful suggestions and extending her best wishes for the district’s continued progress.
The meeting also included an open house discussion, which witnessed active participation from representatives of the World Bank along with officials from various line departments. The session focused on reviewing ongoing project progress, addressing implementation challenges and suggestions along with planning the next phase of development under the SIKKIM INSPIRES initiative.
Initially, the meeting commenced with the welcome address delivered by ADC (Development) and Member Secretary (IEIAP Committee) Mr Gaayas Pega, while the meeting concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by ADC-I (Soreng) Mr DR Bista.
Also present during the meeting were Panchayat Presidents and Members, Additional Political Secretary (Soreng) Mr Eras Lucksom, SDM (HQ) Mr Prem K Subba, SDM (Soreng) Ms Sakchum Lepcha, Head of Departments, Head of Offices, officers and officials from various line departments and stakeholders.
Thereafter, a team of dignitaries and the delegation visited the upcoming Digital Nomad Village at Jautar in Gumpa Dara, where they interacted with local homestay owners. During the interaction, the dignitaries enquired about the current needs, challenges and aspirations of the homestay operators.
As part of their tour, the team also visited a local beauty parlour operated by an individual entrepreneur who is also imparting training under the Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP).
During the interaction, General Manager (DIC) Ms Anula Gurung emphasised the importance of raising awareness about entrepreneurship among the local community. She also suggested conducting awareness sessions, especially targeting students through “One Day at School Programme”, to encourage entrepreneurial thinking from an early age.
