28th Lama Gongdue Drupchen Concludes at Ringhim Rikzing Choling Monastery
Mangan, March 13 (IPR): The sacred 28th Lama Gongdue Drupchen, a week-long world peace prayer ceremony held at Ringhim Rikzing Choling Monastery, Mangan, concluded today with elaborate rituals and spiritual offerings.
The final day of the ceremony commenced in the early hours of the morning, with devotees and monks gathering at the monastery for the concluding rites. A special Wang (sacred empowerment and blessing) was bestowed upon the devotees by HE Zokhang Rinpoche. The ritual, which began around 3:00 AM, is considered one of the most significant aspects of the Drupchen, offering spiritual initiation and blessings to all participants.
Later in the day, the monks performed the Marmay Menlom (butter lamp offering ceremony). In this ritual, rows of butter lamps were offered as a symbol of light and wisdom. Traditionally, the offering is made to purify and make amends for any shortcomings that may have occurred during the week-long prayers and rituals. It also signifies the dispelling of darkness and ignorance, while invoking blessings for harmony and well-being.
The butter lamp offering is further dedicated to the liberation and guidance of all sentient beings, including those who have departed from this world, symbolically illuminating the path for lost souls and invoking peace across all realms of existence.
The Lama Gongdue Drupchen, now in its 28th year, is regarded as one of the most significant annual spiritual gatherings at the monastery. Conducted by nearly 300 monks, along with the participation of devotees from across Sikkim, the ceremony involves continuous prayers, sacred chanting and traditional Buddhist rituals dedicated to the cause of global peace, compassion and the welfare of all beings.
As the sacred prayers concluded today, the ceremony once again reaffirmed the enduring spiritual heritage of the region and the collective aspiration for peace, harmony and prosperity for all.
