1st State Inter-School Badminton Championship – 2025 in Mangan District

Mangan, July 16 (IPR):
The 1st State Inter-School Badminton Championship 2025, organised by the Badminton Association of Sikkim (BAS) was successfully held in Mangan District from 15th to 16th July 2025.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Mr David Gyamtso Lingdong, CEO (Education) cum Chief Coordinator of BAS. He warmly greeted the dignitaries and offered khadas to the Chief Guest Dr Sonam Rinchen Lepcha, ADC (Development), along with other distinguished guests.
Mr Lingdong briefed the gathering on the vision and efforts of BAS. Under its aegis, a District Badminton Team was formed, led by the DC and SP of Mangan. The process was supervised by CEO himself along with Mr Kailash Thapa, BDO Mangan cum Joint Secretary BAS and Event Observer. Key contributors included Mr Ganesh Thapa, Welfare Officer cum BAS Member and Mr Kushal Gurung, Deputy Director (LR&DM) cum BAS Member.
The selection journey began with a trial camp on 20th June at Singhik Secondary School, where 68 students from 14 schools participated. The trials were conducted by referees and selectors Coach Mr Sonam Wangyal Lachungpa and Mr Lakpa Tshering Bhutia. After initial screening, 34 students were selected and underwent intensive training at Mangan Secondary School from 26th June to 3rd July, guided by Coach Mr Lakpa Tshering Bhutia and Mr Rajat Thakur. From these, 26 players were shortlisted for the district team, out of which 15 players were selected to represent the district at the State-Level Championship.
In his speech, Mr Lingdong emphasised the importance of sports in students’ lives and wished the participants the best of luck. The opening ceremony concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
The Chief Guest Dr Sonam Rinchen Lepcha, in his address, highlighted the need for a balanced approach to academics and sports. He appreciated the enthusiastic participation and applauded the organising team for their dedication and commitment. He also expressed gratitude to WO Mr Ganesh Thapa for his active coordination under the banner of the Nasha Mukta Mangan District campaign.
The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Mr Kailash Thapa, BDO Mangan cum Joint Secretary BAS, who expressed sincere appreciation to all dignitaries, participants, school principals, and attendees. Special thanks were extended to Mr Ganesh Kr. Subba, General Secretary of the Boxing Association Mangshila for sponsoring the prize money for the U-17 Boys and Girls winners, and to MEO Mr Karzong Bhutia and NDFA Member Mr Rajender Gurung for their unwavering support.
Following this, certificates and award was distributed to the participant and the names of the 15 players selected for the State-Level Championship, scheduled to be held in Gangtok from 3rd August 2025, were announced:

The event concluded with the National Anthem, marking a successful and inspiring championship.
The event also had the presence of Mr Mani Kumar Tamang ASP, Mr Tempo T. Kaleon CMO, Mr Tempa R. Bhutia RTO, Mr Manzil Kharel, DFO (T) and officials from various line departments, Panchayats, school heads, members of NDFA, BAS, teachers, coaches, and enthusiastic students.
