15-Day Summer Academic Emrichment Cource At Lower Bermiok Sanskrit Pathshala Concludes
Gyalshing, August 31st (IPR): The 15-day Summer Academic Enrichment Course organised by Lower Bermiok Ucchatar Sanskrit Pathshala concluded today with a valedictory programme held at the school premises. Area MLA Gyalshing-Bermiok Constituency and Advisor PHED Government of Sikkim Mr Loknath Sharma, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The programme was attended by District Collector Gyalshing Mr Tenzing D. Denzongpa, Superintendent of Police Gyalshing Ms Paru Ruchal, Director Language Textbooks and Samagra Shiksha Education Department Mr Ambar Das Chhetri, Chairman Sikkim Milk Union and President School Management Committee Mr Yam Kumar Sharma, Chief Education Officer Gyalshing Mr Rajesh Kumar Thapa, Block Development Officer Hee-Martam Mr Kailash Gurung and other officials, faculty members, students and esteemed guests.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Loknath Sharma highlighted the significance of the affiliation of Lower Bermiok Ucchatar Sanskrit Pathshala with Central Sanskrit University (CSU), New Delhi. He stated that the affiliation would provide students pursuing traditional Sanskrit education with wider academic opportunities and avenues for pursuing higher studies and professional careers.
Mr Sharma expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister of Sikkim for promoting and supporting traditional education. He highlighted the State Government’s annual financial assistance of ₹10 lakh towards boarding, lodging and mess expenses for Gurukul scholars.
He also appreciated the efforts of the Directorate of Languages and Central Sanskrit University in introducing a multidisciplinary curriculum incorporating Sanskrit, English, Science, Yoga and Personality Development, aimed at providing students with a holistic educational foundation.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Yam Kumar Sharma emphasised the importance of Sanskrit education in preserving the State’s rich cultural and traditional heritage. He stressed the need for integrating classical and Vedic studies with contemporary education and called for coordinated efforts by parents, teachers, concerned departments and other stakeholders towards strengthening the institution.
District Collector, Gyalshing, Mr Tenzing D. Denzongpa, highlighted the importance of Sanskrit in linguistic learning. He stated that a strong foundation in Sanskrit could facilitate students in understanding and learning other subjects.
Addressing the infrastructure requirements of the institution, the District Collector assured that separate toilet blocks for students and staff would be taken up. He informed that matters concerning the Mid-Day Meal scheme and Phase II expansion had been submitted to the concerned departments for necessary action.
He further informed that a joint inspection team from Central Sanskrit University and the Education Department would assess the requirements of the institution and prepare an assessment report for facilitating central financial assistance towards expansion of hostel facilities.
Director of the Language Section, Mr A. D. Chhetri, briefed the gathering on the initiatives being undertaken for strengthening and modernising Sanskrit education in the State. He informed that Lower Bermiok, Pacheykhani and Lingkey Sanskrit Pathshalas have been affiliated with Central Sanskrit University, enabling students to obtain qualifications with wider recognition.
Mr Chhetri further highlighted initiatives to integrate traditional Sanskrit education with contemporary disciplines including Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science and Mathematics. He also spoke about capacity-building programmes and academic support being extended under CSU’s Ashtadashi initiative.
The 15-day enrichment course was conducted with academic support from Central Sanskrit University. Dr Chandhar Niharikey, Assistant Professor, CSU, New Delhi, served as the lead resource person during the course.
Earlier, the valedictory programme commenced with the traditional reception and presentation of Khadas, followed by Deep Prajwalan and the welcome address by the Principal of the institution.
A student representative presented a feedback report on the enrichment course, followed by a Sanskrit drama and welcome dance presented by students of the host institution. The cultural programme featured a Limbu folk dance by students of Lower Bermiok Secondary School, besides Hindi and Nepali folk dances presented by students of Lower Bermiok and Pacheykhani Sanskrit Pathshalas.
The programme concluded with a special presentation by the Language Department, followed by the felicitation of visiting delegates and dignitaries.
