(WCSCDWD)Department distributes cheques to Differently Abled beneficiaries
Gangtok, April 28(IPR):
The Women, Child, Senior Citizen, and Divyangjan Welfare Department (WCSCDWD) organised a cheque distribution programme at the conference hall of Bal Bhawan, Lumsey, today.
In his address, Minister for Women, Child, Senior Citizen and Divyangjan Welfare, Social Welfare, and Printing and Stationery Departments Mr Samdup Lepcha, highlighted that the initiative is a flagship scheme launched by the state government to support persons with disabilities. He encouraged all attendees to actively spread awareness about the benefits available under the scheme at the grassroot level, ensuring that people are well informed about the opportunities provided.
Additionally, he elaborated on the details of the scheme and highlighted the state government’s efforts to uplift and empower persons with disabilities.
Additional Secretary WCSCDWD Ms Tashi Choden Bhutia, in her welcome address, provided an overview of the department and the schemes under which the beneficiaries were receiving cheques. She also highlighted the various initiatives launched by the state government and gave a brief introduction of the programme.
Joint Chief Operating Officer Mr IBS Yadav, in his address, provided an overview of the SANKALP initiative, emphasising the various opportunities and benefits it offers to support persons with disabilities. He highlighted how the scheme aims to promote skill development, enhance employability, and empower individuals with disabilities.
The programme saw the distribution of cheques by the Minister to the beneficiaries under the following schemes:
Sikkim Grant of Award for Marriage with Person with Disabilities (Divyangjan): This scheme was launched with the objective to encourage a normal person to accept the Person with Disability (Divyangian) as life partner and to assimilate the Persons with Disabilities in the mainstream of the society (One-time grant Rs.2 Lakh). This is a 100% State Government initiative scheme. Total number of beneficiaries for FY 2024-2025: 50 Divyangjan couple
National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS): The National Family Benefit Scheme is one of the initial components added under NSAP during its formation in the year 1995. Under this scheme, a one time grant of a sum of 30,000/- (Centre share Rs 20,000/- and State Share Rs 10,000/-) was provided to BPL families in the event of the death of the primary bread winner of the family. Total Number of beneficiaries for FY 2024-2025: 58 beneficiaries.
Skill Development Department under Skill Acquisition and knowledge Awareness of Livelihood Promotion (SANKALP) Scheme: Provided Rs 10,600/ for Aids and Equipments to 50 Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) for making their life simpler and their learning efficient.
The programme also had the presence of Secretary WCSCDWD Ms Normit Lepcha, dignitaries from Skill Development Department, cheque beneficiaries from all six districts, officials and officers of WCSCDWD.
The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Social Welfare Officer WCSCDWD Mr Pradeep Subba and the event was hosted by Assistant Commissioner WCSCDWD Mr PN Pradhan.
