'Batch of 2000' felicitates retired CEO Pema G. Bhutia
YUKSAM, Sept 11: The 'Batch of 2000' of Government Senior Secondary School, Yuksam, felicitated their former teacher, Pema G. Bhutia, at a brief programme held on Thursday.
Shri Pema G. Bhutia, who retired as Chief Education Officer, Gyalshing, on July 31, 2026, was honoured by his former students in recognition of his contribution as a teacher and mentor.
A native of Yuksam, Shri Bhutia began his career as a Graduate Teacher (Arts) in 1991 and served in various capacities, including Additional Director in 2024, before serving as Chief Education Officer, Gyalshing. He taught at Yuksam Secondary School from 1996 to 1998 and played an important role in shaping the formative years of the Batch of 2000. His former students recalled his guidance, discipline, sincerity and commitment to education.
The former students presented him with a felicitation letter and conveyed their gratitude and best wishes for his good health, happiness and a fulfilling post-retirement life.
Receiving the felicitation, Shri Pema G. Bhutia thanked his former students for the gesture. “I never expected such a gesture, but receiving it makes me feel that I have truly served my duty as a teacher, educator and administrator,” he said. He also shared his plans to remain actively engaged in social service and philanthropic activities after retirement. He encouraged his former students to remain engaged in constructive activities and contribute towards the development and welfare of society.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Kesher Chettri, while Karma Lhendup Bhutia and Madan Gurung jointly compered the event. The vote of thanks was proposed by Chandra Bdr. Gurung.
The 'Batch of 2000' comprised Madan Kumar Gurung, Karma Lhendup Bhutia, Kesher Chettri, Chandra Bdr. Gurung, Jas Hang Subba, Mahesh Pradhan and Nima Gyabo Bhutia.
