Date: 22-Aug-2024
Pakyong, 22 August (IPR): Under the campaign "EK PED MAA KE NAAM," launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, an initiative is being undertaken to inspire individuals to plant trees in honour of their own mothers, symbolising a pledge towards safeguarding Mother Earth.
The primary goal of this campaign is to promote the planting of 80 crore trees by September 2024 and further scale it up to 140 crore trees by March 2025, showcasing a comprehensive "Whole of Government" and "Whole of Society approach" in its implementation.
Recognising the pivotal role that tree plantation plays in combating and reversing land degradation, augmenting drought resilience, and mitigating desertification, this initiative is at the forefront of environmental conservation efforts.
In a campaign held at the Office of the Additional District Collector (Dev.) Pakyong today, a total of 150 saplings were planted. The planting ceremony was graced by the presence of Mr Robin Prasad Sewa, Additional District Collector (Dev.), alongside Mr ChandanSing Subba, Block Development Officer, Panchayat President Amba GPU, Officials from Education Department and Mr Keshav Khanal, President of Sikkim Pandit Purohit Organisation.
A touching moment unfolded during the campaign when a venerable 90-year-old mother, Ratna Kumari Chettri from the local community, blessed the occasion with her presence and actively participated in the tree plantation drive, symbolising the collective spirit of nurturing and environmental stewardship.
During the campaign, Mr Robin Pd Sewa emphasised the importance of fostering a personal connection with the planted saplings, urging everyone to nurture and protect them for a cleaner and greener environment.
The event served as a poignant reminder of the profound impact that individual actions can have in contributing towards a sustainable future for generations to come.
