Pakyong, August 10 (IPR): Eighteen mothers from across Sikkim have been recognised for keeping their AAMA Savings Accounts in order, with the State Bank of Sikkim rewarding them for financial discipline under the AAMA Sashaktikaran Yojana.
The Best AAMA Account Holders Awards 2025–26 were presented during AAMA Samman Diwas 2026 at Rangpo Golai Ground, with three mothers from each of the state’s six districts making the list.
The top award carries ₹2 lakh, while the second- and third-prize winners receive ₹1 lakh and ₹50,000, respectively.
Instituted by the State Bank of Sikkim under the guidance of Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang-Golay, the awards seek to encourage beneficiaries to cultivate savings habits and manage their AAMA accounts responsibly.
The awardees are Sushma Sharma, Purkhit Lepcha and Rinzing Ongmu Bhutia from Gangtok; Sumiti Sherpa, Saraswati Tamang and Nari Kala Pradhan from Pakyong; Madhu Chettri, Sunu Hangma Limboo and Pushpa Kumari Darjee from Geyzing; Hem Kumari Gurung, Nisha Bhujel and Kamala Chettri from Soreng; Kalpana Kami, Prasanna Rai and Tshering Tamang from Namchi; and Sangmo Lepcha, Chumzey Lachenpa and Pema Choden Lepcha from Mangan.
The awards put the spotlight on an often-overlooked aspect of welfare programmes—what beneficiaries do with the financial support once it reaches their accounts. By recognising consistent and responsible account management, the initiative aims to turn financial assistance into a stronger tool for household security and women’s empowerment.
With 18 mothers honoured across the state, the awards also underline the role of women as careful financial managers within their families and communities.
