First Departmental Co-ordination cum Pre-Budget Meeting of Department of Fisheries, Government of Sikkim,
Marks Historic Milestone
The Department of Fisheries, Government of Sikkim, convened its first departmental coordination cum pre-budget meeting after the upgradation of the Directorate of Fisheries to a full-fledged Department in March 2024. The significant event, presided over by Secretary Fisheries, Ms.Roshni Rai, was held on 24th April 2024 at the conference hall of the Fisheries Department near Palzor Stadium, Gangtok. The meeting underscored a pivotal moment in the state's commitment to bolstering its fisheries sector and fostering sustainable development.
During the meeting, Secretary of Fisheries, Ms. Roshni Rai, emphasized the Department's unwavering dedication to advancing the fisheries industry in Sikkim. With a vision to harness the immense potential of the state's aquatic resources, Secretary Rai reiterated the Department's resolve to implement progressive policies and initiatives aimed at empowering local fisherfolk, enhancing productivity, and promoting environmental stewardship.
Director Fisheries Shri K K Shrestha, Officers from the Fisheries cadre including all district heads, and officers from the Administration, Accounts and Engineering section actively participated in constructive discussions held during the meeting. The meeting also had the presence of representatives from the IT Department who provided valuable insights for initiating eoffice in the Department.
The respective nodal officers gave presentations on the status of ongoing schemes in the Department like the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and projects undertaken under the Environment Management Plan (EMP) which was followed by a lengthy discussion on the different activities to be conducted during FY 2024-25 along with the sectoral allocation.
Secretary of Fisheries, Roshni Rai, expressed her gratitude to all participants for their valuable insights and unwavering support in laying the groundwork for the Department's transformative journey. She underscored the importance of collective efforts in realizing the Department's overarching goals of fostering innovation, inclusivity, and resilience in the fisheries sector for steering Sikkim towards a prosperous and sustainable future in fisheries, thereby contributing to the state's socioeconomic development and the well-being of its citizens.
