SECOND DAY OF ROAD SHOW, “WHEELS OF DEMOCRACY” AT RANIPOOL AIMS ERROR-FREE ELECTORAL ROLLS WITH SPECIAL FOCUS ON INCLUSION OF YOUTH

Gangtok, Nov 19 (IPR): On the second day of the campaign, as part of the Systematic Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiative, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer in collaboration with Red FM conducted a Road Show, “Wheels of Democracy” for generating Electoral Awareness for the ongoing Special Summary Revision, 2024 at Ranipool Bazar, today.
The day long campaign had the presence of Mr Thendup Lepcha, SDM (HQ) Pakyong, Mr Dorjee Sherpa, AERO, Chujachen Constituency, Mr Pradeep Gurung, AERO Nathang Machong Constituency and Mr Bijay Rai, AERO Namcheybong Constituency.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Thendup Lepcha emphasised on the campaign as a part of an awareness programme, especially for the younger generation apprising them to actively participate and to contribute to democracy.
Subsequently, the awareness programme was taken forward by Host, RJ Prabal of Red FM 93.5, who highlighted ‘Special Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls’ as an updation of electoral rolls.
The Special Summary Revision of Electoral Polls with reference to 01 January 2023 as the qualifying date, commenced from 17th October 2023.
Furthermore, the last day for electors to submit their applications shall be on 9th December 2023 at their nearest polling stations.
Similarly, he informed Form Six to be registered by a new voter, Form Seven to remove a name in case of the voter’s death and Form Eight for photo or name correction & address proof error.

The primary objective of the campaign was to build a truly participative democracy in the state by encouraging all eligible citizens to vote and make an informed decision during the elections.
