Additional Political Secretary under the direction of Hon’ble CM - Holds Review Meeting with Disaster Management C& D employees under Gangtok District
Gangtok, September 03:
The Additional Political Secretary convened a meeting today with the Disaster Management Assistant Supervisor and Coordinators to review preparedness measure and strengthen emergency response mechanisms.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that Disaster Management and Emergency Response play a crucial role in safeguarding the lives and property of the public, especially during times of natural calamities such as landslides, heavy rainfall, and other emergencies.
As per the information presented, all essential items and equipment required for immediate response have been made available. This includes chainsaws, tarpaulins, and other necessary tools to support Quick Response Teams (QRTs) in carrying out their duties effectively.
Currently, Gangtok District has a total of 17 QRT members who remain on standby for emergency situations. These members have consistently demonstrated dedication and efficiency in disaster response, particularly during the monsoon season, when the district is most vulnerable to landslides and related hazards. Their efforts are carried out under the guidance and supervision of the District Project Officer (DPO – Disaster Management) and the District Collector (DC), Gangtok, ensuring a coordinated and timely response to crises.
The Additional Political Secretary lauded the dedication of the teams and stressed the importance of continued preparedness, training, and community awareness to enhance resilience and minimize disaster risks.
