Mega Camp for the Assessment and Distribution of Aids to Children with Special Needs (CwSN) Conducted in Temi Block
Namchi, Temi, August 5:
The Temi Block Administration, in conjunction with the Department of Education, successfully hosted a comprehensive Mega Identification and Assessment Camp at Temi PHC, commemorating the fifth anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, also referred to as Akhil Bharat Shiksha Samagam.
This initiative, organised by Inclusive Education under Samagra Shiksha, involved collaboration with various departments, including Health and Family Welfare, Women, Child, Senior Citizen, and Divyangjan Welfare, along with CRC Sikkim and the Education Department of Temi BAC.
The primary aim of this event was to conduct essential assessments and facilitate the distribution of aids specifically designed for Children with Special Needs (CwSN) under the Samagra Shiksha program.
The camp represented a significant advancement in promoting inclusive education by providing thorough assessments and targeted support for CwSN within the Block. A total of 24 students from schools across the Temi, Ben, Bermoik, and Namphing Clusters underwent detailed evaluations to identify a variety of developmental delays, cognitive challenges, and speech and learning disabilities.
The event was graced by distinguished guests, including Dr. M.B. Chettri, Joint Commissioner (Disabilities Technical), Women, Child, Senior Citizen, and Divyangjan Welfare Department.
Mr. Indra Giri, Assistant Director of Education and Nodal Officer for Inclusive Education Temi BAC, and Mr. Bhim Poudyel, Assistant Education Officer, alongside the dedicated staff of the Education Department, Temi BAC.
The Children underwent evaluations conducted by a specialised panel of Expert Evaluators:
- Dr. D. Deokata, Orthopaedic Specialist
- Dr. Aradhana Rai, Audiologist and Speech Therapist
- Dr. Tsephel Eden Bhutia, Psychiatrist
- Dr. Kavya Rai, Psychologist
Coordination and Facilitation:
The camp was effectively coordinated by Special Educator Mrs. Hashina Chhetri, supported by the diligent staff of Temi PHC and a committed team from the Temi BAC Education Department, ensuring logistical efficiency and thorough documentation, with each child receiving personalised attention.
Mr. Indra Giri, Assistant Director of Education and Nodal Officer for Inclusive Education Temi BAC, engaged in constructive discussions with medical professionals and parents, emphasising the importance of a collaborative approach to inclusive education. The event concluded with a sincere expression of gratitude, recognising the collective commitment to empowering children with special needs, ultimately fostering a future filled with hope and opportunity.
