Labour Department organizes an awareness program at Soreng

Soreng, December 2(IPR): Following its inauguration, the newly established Office of Labour Department, Soreng district organised an Awareness Generation Program on Implementation of Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1996 and Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Cess Act, 1996 at the conference hall of Government BEd College, Soreng today.
Minister (Labour Department), Shri L.N Sharma had graced the event as the Chief Guest and accompanying him were Zilla Adhakshya, Soreng district, Smt. Tila Devi Gurung, Upadhakshya, Soreng district, Shri Chandra Bir Kami, MLA, Shri Aditya Golay, Advisors, Chairpersons, Zilla Panchayats and Panchayat Members. Also, present for the event were Secretary (Labour and Skill Development Dept.), Shri Karma Namgyal Bhutia, Special Commissioner (Labour Dept.), Shri D.S Kunwar, DC Soreng, Shri Bhim Thatal, ADC (Dev), Shri Gaayas Pega along with other dignitaries, HODs, Officers, Students and stakeholders amongst others.
Addressing on the occasion, the Minister, Shri L.N Sharma firstly extended his congratulatory wishes to the people for the establishment of a designated office for Labour Department. Terming the day to be a historic, he enumerated some of the achievements of the Government under the leadership of the HCM, Shri P.S Tamang.
Adding to this, the Minister appraised about the works that will be carried out by the department and said that it will be attending and nurturing the wellbeing of all its stakeholders. Simultaneously, he urged the department officials to ensure the labour registration under each organization/ corporation whether private or public is done in order to reap the benefits and facilities of various schemes and incentives of the State Government. He highlighted some of the schemes that are available for the beneficiaries such as Health Insurances, Financial assistance for Children’s education including higher education and so forth.
The Minister also spoke about schemes and incentives in various other sectors such as dairy farming, agriculture, and encouraged all to explore these sectors as a potential means of livelihood. He urged all the Panchayat members to work in coordination with the concerned department in order to achieve the goal of Aatmanirbhar Sikkim and contribute towards the holistic development of the State.
Addressing to the students, the Minister outlined motivating phrases to attract them towards the noble profession of farming. He added that students must be educated and equally skilled for today’s competitive world. Enumerating some of the success stories of farmers, he highlighted some pathbreaking schemes envisioned and initiated by the HCM, and underlined notable financial incentives being provided to the farmers under Mukhyamantri Krishi Aatma Nirbhar Yojana (MMKANY), Mukhya Mantri Pashudhan Samridhi Yojana (MMPSY) and Mukhya Mantri Matsya Utpadan Yojana (MMMUY). Terming entrepreneurship to be a lucrative profession, he urged them to explore such avenues for self-reliant.
In his concluding remarks, he reiterated that the Panchayats along with the department officials must initiate ways to disseminate information about such schemes and incentives to the local community at the grassroot levels especially to the unknown.
MLA Shri Aditya Golay in his address, spoke few words of wisdom for the audience especially to the students present. He encouraged the younger generations to explore entrepreneurship as a source of gaining financial independence. He further advised them to positively approach skilled labour works without any apprehensions.
Taking the opportunity, the MLA expressed his gratitude towards the HCM, Shri P.S Tamang and the Central Government for conferring the district of Soreng as an aspirational district and as such many development projects and schemes will be forthcoming in the district, he added.
Secretary (Labour and Skill Development Dept.) Shri Karma Namgyal Bhutia in his address, acknowledged the support provided by other departments in establishing the district Office and expressed his gratitude towards the MLA for the needed guidance. Hereafter, he informed about the department’s functionalities and made aware about Acts and Laws under the Office. He also highlighted some of the schemes that are available for the stakeholders.
Speaking briefly on the event, DC Soreng, Shri Bhim Thatal gave an introductory comment about the department. He underlined some of the benefits and favourable advantages of establishing a dedicated department. He also presented an overview of the district since its formation.
The program also included felicitation of Shri Kal Bahadur Gurung from Siribadam, winner of Best Trout Hatchery, on the occasion of World Fisheries Day from the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Govt. of India.
