Pakyong, November 8: The Department of Women, Child, Senior Citizen and Divyangjan Welfare, Pakyong District, conducted a Bal Panchayat Meet at Rolep Lamaten GPU under the flagship initiative Beti Bachao Beti Padhao. Students from Rolep Senior Secondary School were invited to participate in the programme, which aimed to create awareness among students about the functions of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and to promote children’s participation in local governance.
The programme began with a welcome address by the Social Welfare Inspector, Ms. Minita Gurung, followed by an introduction to the concept of Bal Panchayat and the presentation of the main functionaries of the PRIs of Rolep Lamaten GPU. Mr. Tshering Norden Bhutia, Vice-President of the GPU, further elaborated on the structure and functions of the Panchayati Raj Institutions, providing detailed insights to the students.
During the interaction session, students from Rolep Senior Secondary School actively engaged with the Panchayat members on issues such as education, sanitation, and environmental cleanliness. They also shared their views and suggestions for improving school and village facilities, demonstrating their awareness and enthusiasm for community development.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the SWI, who expressed gratitude to the Panchayat President, Vice-President, Panchayat Members, students, and staff of the GPU for their active participation and support.
The event was a great success as it not only enhanced students’ understanding of the Panchayati Raj System but also inspired them to become responsible and active citizens in the future.
