Mangan Nagar Panchayat Receives the State Level Awards for Promising Clean Cities in Sikkim at Swachh Survekshan Awards 2024-25
New Delhi, July 17:
In a significant recognition of urban cleanliness and sanitation efforts, Shri Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, presented the award for Promising Clean Cities in Sikkim to Mangan Nagar Panchayat at the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2024-25 held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on 17th July 2025.
The event marked the culmination of the 2024 edition of Swachh Survekshan, the world’s largest urban cleanliness survey conducted under the Swachh Bharat Mission – Urban. This year’s survey saw participation from over 4,500 ULBs across the country and evaluated cities on parameters such as citizen feedback, waste management, innovation, and overall sanitation practices.
Mangan Nagar Panchayat was lauded for its outstanding performance in solid waste management, sanitation infrastructure, and community engagement. The award was received by Shri Bhoj Raj Rai Hon’ble Minister for Urban Development Department, Smt Norkit Lepcha Hon’ble President Mangan Nagar Panchayat , Smt Premkit Lepcha Hon’ble Councilor Mangan Nagar Panchayat, Shri Jitendra Singh Raje (IAS) Commissioner cum Secretary Urban Development Department, Smt Yogeeta Rai Secretary Urban Development Department, Shri Jigmi Wangchuk Bhutia Mission Director SBM(U) , Shri Karzong Bhutia MEO Mangan Nagar Panchayat & representatives of the Mangan Nagar Panchayat in the presence of dignitaries and officials from across India.
The other Urban Local Bodies in Sikkim too fared much better in this year's edition of Swachha Survekshan as compared to previous years.
Speaking at the event, Shri Manohar Lal Khattar congratulated all the winners and emphasized the government’s continued commitment to achieving a garbage-free and sustainable urban India. He noted that recognitions like these serve as an inspiration for other cities to replicate successful models of cleanliness.The ceremony also saw the presence of senior officials from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, urban development authorities, and award-winning municipalities from across the country.
The award ceremony was followed by a review meeting chaired by the Union Minister on the implementation of various schemes of the Ministry with the State Minister and officers .
