Virtual Inauguration Held for Carpenter Trade Training under PM Vishwakarma Scheme
Gangtok, Nov 4 (IPR): The Commerce and Industries Department, Government of Sikkim, organised a virtual inauguration of a Carpenter Trade Training programme under the PM Vishwakarma Scheme at Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Gyalshing from the Mini Conference Hall of Udyog Bhawan,today.
The programme was inaugurated virtually by Secretary, Commerce and Industries Department, Government of Sikkim, Ms Karma D Youtso, in the presence of Director, MSME, Commerce and Industries Department, Mr M. Ravikumar, and the team from the State Level Programme Management Unit (SLPMU).
In her address, Secretary, Commerce and Industries Department, Ms Karma D Youtso, highlighted the importance of skill development and encouraged participants to make full use of the training. She stated that carpentry holds good potential as a source of income within the state and urged local artisans to be efficient and well equipped to make the state self-sufficient in the sector.
The Secretary advised the trainees to take advantage of the benefits of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme, which include access to collateral-free credit of up to ₹1 lakh at a subsidized interest rate, a free toolkit, and opportunities to participate in trade fairs and exhibitions.
Mr. M. Ravikumar, Director, MSME, Commerce and Industries Department, congratulated ITI Gyalshing for conducting training for local entrepreneurs. He advised the participants to apply the training effectively to strengthen their technical skills and stated that the department would continue to support artisans in marketing and promotion to expand their enterprises.
Mr M Ravikumar further mentioned that the department remains committed to providing continuous training and institutional support. He added that the trainees would also have opportunities to participate in trade fairs and exhibitions in other states.
He informed that the department would assist artisans in online marketing of their products and encouraged them to develop products that meet market demand. He also suggested that artisans should focus on creating good traditional furniture that reflects local craftsmanship.
General Manager, District Industries Centre (DIC) Gyalshing and Soreng, Ms Anula Gurung, stated that the training is important for enhancing the skills of local artisans. She advised the participants to visit the DIC office for queries related to state and central schemes and other support services.
During the session, participants interacted with the officials and raised queries related to the training and the scheme. The trainees expressed their gratitude to the department for organising the training, which they said would help them enhance their skills and expand their businesses.
